I Think Obama Supports Pilot Triggered Public Option
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 01:28 PM by obama196186
i think we will get all of obama's healthcare's reforms plus trigger public option,
meaning the full public option will only go into effect if the industry doesn't police itself

and i think we will have the public option in pilot form in 2 states with the highest number of uninsured to test if it works

1. Not surprising it will end up this way -- The fear is the Trigger ends up like Medicare-Part D
which just makes the public option useless. And in the mean time over the years that the public option is not in effect the insureres will hike prices and get as much as they can until the final year of the PO trigger where they then let out their 10,000 lawyers to look for loopholes (a la Medicare part D).

This is why it is important NOT to allow for a trigger. Add that with a potentially weak or very compromised public option and this could veyr well be xmas for the health industry. Right now wall street is feeling the green and the entire industry has skyrocketed by the news coming from congress (weak reform = higher stock prices for insurers).

I am hoping something happens over the months that eliminate the trigger entirely and the Public Option details gets a little tough since right now its a bit weak (its likely it will be bent to appease blue dogs)

2. Triggers NEVER get pulled. It's a historical fact.
See importation of drugs and Medicare Part D.

It just doesn't happen. If we don't get the PO right away (or on a specific time schedule), we will never get it.

7. Sirota talked about this on Rachel's show last night...
He explained how trigger is another word for kill it.

(He's got a good article on it.)

4. There is one good thing about a triggered public option
You can remove the trigger later on. That's a helluva lot easier than trying to put a public option in later.

Hell, make it an amendment on a military spending bill and the trigger goes away. Try adding a public option in a military spending bill and you will have hell to pay.

11. You seem quite enamored. As if you think this is actually a good idea
instead of a way to put the public option, or anything else the insurance companies don't like, into a shoebox to be locked away in the Capitol basement.
