Anyone see SIROTA on Rachel's show??
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 08:34 PM by polichick
They were talking about the trigger ~ how that's just another word for "kill it" and how the trigger that would have allowed us to import drugs has never been pulled. (It was supposed to happen once those drugs were determined to be safe for U.S. citizens.)

He says the WH will not go after the conservadems with ties to the healthcare industry.

That trigger stuff was interesting.

On edit: Here's his article on the subject:

7. After reading Sirota's article, I'm remembering Rahm insulting progressives...

...for ads exposing some blue dogs' lucrative relationships with the healthcare industry.

"As just one example, Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff pushing a trigger, was previously one of the key congresspeople who portrayed sham importation bills as real progress (he was also - not coincidentally - a huge recipient of health industry cash)."

9. David Sirota explained the use of "triggers" as a sure-fire way to ensure it NEVER happens.
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 09:49 PM by seafan
Sirota said that the "trigger" mechanism was used in the legislative fight against importing safe and effective drugs from other countries (Canada primarily) for use in the U. S.

On January 10, 2007, The Pharmaceutical Market Access and Drug Safety Act was introduced by U.S. Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), and Representatives Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO), and Rahm Emanuel (D-IL).

Even Tim Pawlenty was in favor of importation, saying, 'if these drugs were unsafe, where are all the dead Canadians?'

But the legislation contained a *trigger*, that was only going to be pulled if the Secretary of HHS *certified* that those drugs were *safe*. Of course, the HHS Secretary under Bush never did that, so the trigger was never pulled.

Nice how that worked out, huh?

U. S. citizens could not benefit from less expensive imported drugs, and conservative Democrats (and Republicans) could boast that they voted *for* the legislation.

Not surprisingly, Big Pharma is still spending lots of money heading off any renewed interest in importing drugs that might crop back up in the health care reform battle.

And look who benefits from the *public option trigger* deception--- aside from Big Insurance and Big Pharma:

The reason for triggers, Sirota explains, is to *give cover* to those legislators who were in bed with Big Pharma THEN, and are in bed with Big Health Insurance NOW. By promising a trigger, conservative Democrats can vote FOR popular health care reform legislation, knowing that the trigger will never be pulled to enact a true public option. Nice.

By the way, I just heard that Joe Wilson's opponent Robert Miller just topped $1 Million in donations in the last 48 hours since that ignorant bastard Wilson shot off his mouth at the Joint Session speech.

THIS is also what is in store for Democrats who betray the principles of the Democratic Party.

11. It's very telling that the WH has so far refused to pressure the Blue Dogs...
That's what I'm really watching at this point ~ if the president is as much of an enabler as the dogs, why bring healthcare up at all? Just to get a legislative victory based on a horrible plan?

18. Sirota's AM Radio Show in Denver ROCKS
I invite you all to listen to the best early AM liberal radio show out there. 6AM - 10AM MST - http://www.am760.net/pages/listenonline.html

He's been filling in for months while Jay Marvin is in the hospital - I hope when Jay comes back, they will move Sirota to afternoon drive and get rid of that idiot Mario Solis-Marich. He may not want to work in radio full-time because of his book - but he's really good at it.
