PHOTOS The Big Guy Meets, Well, The Biggest Guy
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 06:33 PM by Jackeens

Igor Vovkovinskiy, standing 7 feet 8 inches tall and wearing a 'World's Biggest Obama Supporter' T-shirt, shakes hands with U.S. President Barack Obama after a rally for Obama's health insurance reform initiatives at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota September 12, 2009.

1. It feels so good to see the diversity in that crowd
after the angry white march.

22. I want to hang around these folks
Look at them - they look like America. Look at the joy on their faces and look at the marvelous diversity. This looks like humanity at its very best.

Those mean spirited, small minded, racist Hateriots in DC do not represent the future of this country, they represent its past.

32. It was such a uplifting event.
I went there after a really lousy morning at work and I still have a smile on my face. It was truly a fun crowd and everyone was talking to each other like they've known them all of their life. It was truly a wonderful event.

As a related point, that 20,000 people sang the National Athem like we were in a chorus that practiced for weeks. I have never heard that many amateurs sing it so well. In fact, the person who was supposed to lead us in the anthem started and try to stop and start again. Too late, the audience took over and he had to just catch up.

There is a pride and excited on the left that I haven't seen in decades.

25. Damn Critters2.
After looking at those pictures, I was about to post the same thing. Then I saw your post. hahaha. But seriously, I think our diversity is a beautiful thing: old, young, black, white, that's the real America.

30. Sometimes it seems like it's two steps forward, one step back.
And there are times like it seems like two steps back, one step forward.

I'd like to think that, over the years, the hatriots will be a smaller and smaller part of our country. I'd like to think that.

2. That's a great pic!
Igor is probably one of the few out of the many millions who flock to see our President that Obama can instantly recognize and remember!

And what a happy-looking crowd.

amusedly,
Bright

23. Great idea!
I'm 6'7", and I set short idiots off a lot. Igor, at 7'8", with a black suit, sunglasses, and an earpeice would freak 'em out! Especially with that big smile "Omigawd, he wants to eat our children!" It's like homeopathy - the smaller the real threat, the bigger the freakout.

27. I didn't see Igor himself
When I was visiting the DFL headquarters in Rochester with my mum but I spotted his picture and told my mum, "That's Igor, the biggest democratic supporter I've met."

I grew up in Rochester :-D

No hate.

Just emotional people supporting their cause through respectable dialogue.

The right could learn a lot from these people!

in the pics of Igor standing with Michelle and with Barack?

She looks tiny but is probably close to average size as Barack & Michelle are tall.

31. I went to see Bruce Springsteen in Dublin earlier this summer and was stuck behind....
...a fella who was about 6'4". I felt very sorry for myself, seeing nothing but his bottom for the entire three hours.

But then I saw these photos of Igor and decided it could have been worse. :-)

34. Oh, that is frustrating! Well, at least you got to hear Bruce.
And definitely, it could be worse.

(I'm afraid my son will wind up at 6'4" or so. He's a tall kid already, and, at 12, has years of growing ahead of him.)

Last summer I was in the Portland (state of Oregon) airport and thought we were having an earthquake because the floor was shaking. I looked up to see a guy about Igor's height walking by. Then, he was on my flight. I have NO idea how he wedged himself into an airplane seat. :wow:

39. I remember when Igor was brought to the Mayo Clinic from Ukraine; he was 7
It was a tumor in his pituitary gland that caused him to be such a giant. He was over 5 feet tall at age 3. He's 7 feet 8 inches now. It was a big story at the time.

I guess he stayed in Minnesota ... and became a great big American hero!
