I got this chain email forwarded to me from my girlfriend.
I'm not sure who the bozo is that sent it to her. It includes pictures of the twin towers, scenes from 911 and the memorial there now. Toward the bottom is a picture of a large group of marines with heads bowed in prayer. That's followed by the phony bit about the ACLU.
I hit reply to all and said, "nice but I can't foreword this because of the part about the marines." I backed it up with this link.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/marines.asp
There were a lot of email addresses that I sent out to when I replied to all. I expect to hear back from some that I pissed off. They will really get blasted! I'm ready with the Beck hates 9/11 families audio, Obama has kept us safe longer than Bush and whatever else I can come up with. I can't wait.
Someone that was really trying to send out something meaningful to remember 9/11 shouldn't have turned it into a phony ACLU attack at the end.

MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL
PLEASE READ TO THE VERY END, IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

'MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL'
You say you will never forget where you were when
you heard the news On September 11, 2001.
Neither will I.
I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room
with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I
held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the
peace to say, 'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it
is OK..I am ready to go.'
I was with his wife when he called as she fed
breakfast to their children. I held her up as she
tried to understand his words and as she realized
he wasn't coming home that night.
I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a
woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been
knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said.
'Of course I will show you the way home - only
believe in Me now.'
I was at the base of the building with the Priest
ministering to the injured and devastated souls.
I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He
heard my voice and answered.
I was on all four of those planes, in every seat,
with every prayer. I was with the crew as they
were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the
believers there, comforting and assuring them that their
faith has saved them.
I was in Texas , Virginia , California , Michigan , Afghanistan .
I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news.
Did you sense Me?
I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew
every name - though not all know Me. Some met Me
for the first time on the 86th floor.
Some sought Me with their last breath.
Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the
smoke and flames; 'Come to Me.... this way... take
my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me.
But, I was there.
I did not place you in the Tower that day. You
may not know why, but I do.. However, if you were
there in that explosive moment in time, would you have
reached for Me?
Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey
for you . But someday your journey will end. And I
will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may
be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are
'ready to go.'
I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.
God

During the next 60 seconds, stop whatever you are
doing, and take this opportunity. (Literally it
is only 1 minute.) All you have to do is the
following:
Stop and think and appreciate God's power
in your life, for doing what you know is pleasing to
Him. If you are not ashamed to do this, follow the
instructions. Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of Me, I will be
ashamed of you before My Father'
If you are not ashamed, copy and send this message....only
if you believe 'Yes, I love my God. He is my
fountain of Life and My Savior. He Keeps me going day and
night. Without Him, I am no one. But with Him, I can do
everything. Christ is my strength..'

THIS NEEDS TO GO AROUND THE USA MANY TIMES SO PLEASE KEEP IT GOING. WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT?

If you look closely at the picture above, you will note that all the Marines pictured are bowing their heads. That's because they're praying. This incident took place at a recent ceremony honoring the birthday of the corps, and it has the ACLU up in arms. 'These are federal employees,' says Lucius Traveler, a spokesman for the ACLU , 'on federal property and on federal time. For them to pray is clearly an establishment of religion, and we must nip this in the bud immediately.' When asked about the ACLU's charges, Colonel Jack Fessender, speaking for the Commandant of the Corps said (cleaned up a bit), 'Screw the ACLU..' GOD Bless Our Warriors, Send the ACLU to France . May God Bless America , One Nation Under GOD! What's wrong with the picture? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
GOD BLESS YOU FOR PASSING IT ON!
I am not breaking this one.....Let us pray
Prayer chain for our Military...please don't break it.
THIS NEEDS TO GO AROUND THE USA MANY TIMES SO KEEP IT GOING.

2. Good for you for responding, and I'd note...
...that another of the urban legend e-mails that makes the rounds, especially on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, is the disgusting missive reprinted (and duly debunked) in this Snopes link. Forewarned is forearmed.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/stamps/eidstamp.asp

Some years back I received the rant against the USPS's Eid stamp, and of course I went out and deliberately bought Eid stamps, even though I'm not Muslim.

The current version of the e-mail falsely claims that President Obama "directed" the Postal Service to issue the stamp, which anyone even slightly familiar with the USPS and their holiday-themed stamps will recognize can't be true, because an advisory panel chooses designs, they're announced in advance, and of course the Eid stamp itself was first issued in 2001. To top it all off, the current e-mail even gets the price of a stamp wrong.

In any event, it sickens me that people exploit the 9/11 tragedy to engage in Muslim-bashing and, quite frankly, lie-spreading.

4. When I replied I only sent back the snopes link because...
I imagine quite a few just forewarded that without really thinking. I will only get nasty with anyone that emails me back and gives me any shit about it.
It's then that I point out that Obama has kept us safe longer than Bush. 9/11 should be a reminder of what happens if you put a pack of criminals and perverts in power.

5. If you use the Snopes link and explain what's wrong with the spam, I think more will read it...
... than if there is no explanation. Hitting Reply All is always a good idea. In the past, I have actually gotten a few responses from people who were really grateful that I took the time to correct all the garbage (politely and factually) -- just because they were on the original sender's list didn't mean they agreed with the content of the spam any more than I did, they just didn't know how to object to it.

I'm sure your gf is a nice person -- good luck educating her.
