One brave man at the Tea Bag protest in DC

This brave man walked through the anti-health care crowd with his large poster and was immediately set upon by the crowd. One person spit on him, while others pushed and tried to grab his flag until the police intervened. Most of the crowd around him turned on him like rabid dogs, yelling epithets and things like commie, why dont you leave this country etc. Impressively, he remained unflappable and had this little smile on the whole time.

Good for him!
As has been suggested in many other threads...but it always bears repeating.... Those against the public option and "socialized medicine" should be given back all the money they've paid in to Social Security and Medicare and told that they are now free of the yoke of "socialism". They will not get Social Security ever..nor will they ever get Medicare or Medicaid. We are allowing them to "opt out". :)

11. Government entirely out of their lives.
I am woefully unable to post from sites that don't just let me copy the url, but HuffPo has a YouTube video up of Michael Blumenthal interviewing teabaggers. Amazing. One woman says she'll gladly give up her social security if the government will get completely out of her life. I assume she drove home on those roads, etc. etc., blissfully secure that she told off that horrid monster "government." The sense of entitlement under the guise of just the opposite is just astonishing.

25. Taxes (and government) are the price we pay for living in a society.
Someone needs to tell that woman that if she wants no government in her life, she needs to move!

26. But to where?
This is always the question. Obviously not Canada because it's cold and, well, has socialized medicine. Any country with "other" people (black, brown, yellow, purple, etc) is out of the question. So, that leaves Europe, but of course, all of western Europe is "socialest." Eastern Europe maybe? But, of course, they're all commies.

So, where exactly will they move to have less government but the same standard of living (because they've earned the right to sit on the couch and watch the picture machine all day)?

Well...they're just going to have to give up that "standard of living" thing because they enjoy tht standard of living because of the hateful "government".

36. Somalia
It's the right-wing's wet dream. There are no pesky rules, laws, regulations, or socialist policies to stand in their way of success. Seriously. I think Somalia should be championed by the right as a place where finally they can be free to tug on their little bootstraps all day, and no one will stop them, except maybe the people with more power than they have. Then perhaps they'll understand that along with those pesky things come protection and some form of stability.

The sense of "I'm being an activist because I'm posting on DU" is just as astonishing!

Why aren't more of you DUers out in the trenches? Given the number of visits to this site, there are quite a few 'activists' who visit this blog daily and post erudite little bon mots with the singular goal of becoming one of the 1000+ crowd!!

I just have to laugh. How many of you are actually doing something about health insurance reform?!?!

Isn't it just a wee bit sad that this man was the only one brave enough to get out there and visibly be an activist in support of true health insurance reform?!?!

I would seriously consider taking all the money I've paid to the Federal Government and take my chances.
Considering that this country is essentially bankrupt, what I'll likely see from the government is about 25
cents on the dollar

Spitting on people, screaming at people, calling them names, mobs...MOBS!...wanting their fellow citizens dead.

Because these fellow citizens...the MAJORITY of the nation...want HEALTHCARE FOR EVERY AMERICAN.

:wow:

Even Cubans have the right to healthcare for all, in their country.

Time to wake up and join the 21st centruy, America.

78. Hi.
If I am misreading or misunderstanding something, then, I apologize. If not, I question your use of the phrase "even Cubans", as if to insinuate that Cuba is some sort of backward people. It is anything but. The medical school system of Cuba has sent world-class doctors to many other countries, including the US; and the one thing stopping the guaranteed state-provided healthcare from being among the best on the planet, is simply the barbaric US blockade.

Nope, I agree with you, and have been to Cuba, a beautiful place with wonderful people.

But sometimes the only way to get thru the deeply stupid thick heads of far too many Americans is to point to their perceived "lesser status" peoples that in fact have more/better rights on certain things than we do.

I hate to imagine how that would have gone down if he didn't have so many police escorts. It looked like towards the end he was being asked to leave. Why should he have to leave? He has as much right to be there as they do.

It really makes me wish we had planned a pro rally/march to go right through the middle of these yahoos, with extremly visible (and coherent) signs & no finger-biting.

30. I was at a pro-healthcare reform rally in my city a few weeks ago.
There were a few hundred people in a city park of about a half block. An ex-mayor spoke as well as an attorney and several doctors. A woman came and was carrying an anti-healthcare reform sign. Nobody booed her or made her feel threatened in any way. They did, however, follow her silently with their own signs.

These teabaggers are being whipped into a frenzy and it is not going to end well. There will be people hurt at the very least and I would not be surprised if there were an assassination attempt that makes it to something actually happening. When that happens the Limbaughs and Becks will claim they are in no way responsible and butter would not melt in their mouths.

52. Next one, let's have two people show up with that poster.

Next one four, and try to get more at every protest until we outnumber the nutcases.

53. Kudos to that man and the cops who escorted him through the crowd of thugs!
Wow. I usually don't have anything nice to say about cops.

Too bad he had to have police escort for safety though. The nuts forget others are allowed to have different views.

69. The next time there is one of these
astroturf events, I'm going to 'infiltrate' and ask my 'buddies' how much they got paid to attend this 'mess.'

That should give them Pause.

And if they say, 'Nothing.' I can say, 'Wow, you're not only stupid, you're broke!'

lol

I saw the video on CrooksandLiars.com and like you kept laughing at the look on his face! Now that man is a true patriot.

I'm sorry I duped your post. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6548860#6548957

89. 1 guy?
Is this the best we can do? 1 guy and all you keyboard warriors cheering for him?

When are we going to show these cretins what a real crowd looks like? When are we going to stand up to this ignorance with action? All this internet howling isn't amounting to much and won't unless we're willing to dance to the music. So find a partner and let's make a date to get out there and be seen/heard. Don't let the efforts of this man be in vain. It's time to stand up and be counted.
