I Have an Idea
These are some of the strangest times in U.S. history. Joe Wilson made history the other night by acting out in a manner that no one has EVER done in the history of the United States, a complete failure of civility and professional decorum. That the republicans even try to defend him, that they choose to stand and defend this crass and disgusting behavior, this complete lack of respect for the Office of the President is disheartening. On the heels of the recent issue with the President speaking directly to schools and the tea bag fest '09 signs and chants, our country is approaching its lowest point since the civil war (at least in my humble opinion). They are the minority though, the "village idiot" ranting in the corner and we must insure that the village idiots DO NOT determine public policy. One way may be to show that we can take to the streets just like they can but in much larger numbers. I propose a "Pro-Democracy, pro-Obama" rally in DC, what do you guys think? I live close to DC and though I have no experience organizing a rally I would be willing to help in any way I can. What do you think?

I don't need to be the driver for this effort, I'm only floating the idea to see what you guys think. I think it would be great to show the world that the nuts are not running the asylum (so to speak :))

**Sorry if I am breaking protocol or any rules. If I am than I respectfully withdraw the post. thanks everyone!**

1. Call me cynical..
Even if 3 Brazillion people showed, the media would ignore it, IMHO.

7. You're right.
How many know....even here in MA, that a pro health care reform rally and march drew 3,500 people to Boston Common on Labor Day?

3. Yes we did
but in light of events over the last couple of months, it appears that they need a reminder that we are in-charge now and they are the minority in our country.

4. What we need is a 'Pro Real Health Coverage Reform' rally.
Let's push that.

5. I agree, and up your ante
I propose starting a non-profit group, with the express goal of countering Media Insanity. I suggest naming the group "The Organization for Media Sanity" - BTW - The domain name "mediasanity.org" is available.

There should be three main activities -

1. Pursue legal options against media personalities that abuse their free speech rights and incite hate and violence against elected officials. I realize that this is a difficult action, and may not be possible as stated. I'd like to talk with some open minded DU lawyers who can give advise without criticism.

2. Creating proactive and reactive media resources (youtube video, press releases, websites, etc) that mock media insanity and offer bitingly sarcastic, yet politically sane alternatives to the MSM.

3. Organize and attend rallies and marches as both a proactive measure, and as a reactive response when the bigots organize their own protests.

And the attendees and their signs will be of such higher class content.
