More Biased Reporting from CNN!
The headline reads "Americans Divided on President's Health Care Plan," but if you actually read the article you learn that a new poll shows a 58% approval rating for Obama, a clear majority in favor of the health care plan, and that public support has increased significantly in recent days:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/09/14/cnn-poll-americans-divided-on-presidents-health-care-plans/#more-68914

If Bush ever had a 58% approval rating at any time except for the immediate aftermath of 9/11, they'd be screaming 'mandate' . . .

1. YES I agree we need to get "Media Matters" to call them on this
America is "divided" between stupid people who work for cable networks, (who have great health insurance), and people who don't.

3. Public trust in US media eroding: Pew study
WASHINGTON (AFP) – Public trust in the US media is eroding and increasing numbers of Americans believe news coverage is inaccurate and biased, according to a study released on Monday.

9. EXCEPT that,
when those numbers were reversed just a short time ago, the equivalent headlines ALWAYS highlighted that the 'majority' opposed the plan!

There has been quite a significant shift of public opinion, and the framing of the story deliberately glosses over this.

13. So basically, the 2008 election was a divided victory for Obama?
Edited on Mon Sep-14-09 04:29 PM by Drunken Irishman
Because they're awfully similar to the final results.

51-46 is not a divided number. One is a majority, the other is not.

16. one is larger - that's all we know
what is the level of significance.

What is the confidence interval.

We cannot even state with certainty that the difference is significant.

8. no it's not - read the article
the 58% has to do with approval - Health Reform approval is 51%

7. Well, if 99 people LOVE X and one person HATES it.
That population is, in fact, "divided".

It's just that the term has been corrupted by the media to IMPLY an even division.

11. This is "CorpMedia Math"
...where 51% to 46% is "divided," yet Bush's 47.9% of the votes cast in 2000 was a "mandate."

18. And then you read something like this and wonder where these numbers come from:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8653665

"Broad majorities across party lines (76 percent overall) say they would support a public option if it were limited only to those who, "cannot get health insurance from a private insurer." Support for that type of public option includes 94 percent of Democrats, 73 percent of independents and 59 percent of Republicans."
