Statement of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold on Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus' Health Care Proposal

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

“My goals for health care reform include a strong public option, long-term care reform and reform of the Medicare reimbursement system that has disadvantaged Wisconsin for far too long. I am disappointed that the Finance Committee bill, as written, comes up short on all three fronts. I hope my colleagues on the Finance Committee will change the bill to ensure it is not just health care reform in name only.”

1. why is this certain proposal (bill) so heavily weighed upon
can't we just laugh at it and move on to one of the other 5 proposals and work with that. Why do we have to have a bill from the finance committee? Just tell them how we plan to pay for it and tell them to deal with it. I can't believe one committee has so much weight on this legislation.

7. The fools -- even "moderates" like Snowe and Enzi aren't on board ...
I'm glad this garbage bill is biting the dust within mere
hours of being introduced.

Now let's get back to focusing on the HELP bill and the
proposals floating in the House -- those offer more hope
of actually passing (by whatever means).

4. Because this is the reasonable compromise bill that will bring10-12 Senate
Republicans to support it.

5. I thought Kerry and others had said that "this" bill won't be the one
voted on. It'll either be amended so much that it won't look like the original Baucus bill at all, or they'll simply go with one of the other 4 and even have to amend that one.

I feel a week-long migraine coming on just at the thought.
There's a thread on calling all our Reps and Sens between now and then that's going strong. I've made 4 calls so far and will keep on until I'm done.

We CAN get things accomplished when we try!

6. I wonder if this one will be used to showcase that the pubs don't want ANY
bill. Maybe not. But it would be a lost opportunity to point out that the Republican Party is the party of NO.

I'm not saying that Baucus wrote it to showcase the republican nonsupport of reform. But that other dems could use it as a positive in the framing, if they so chose.

To be disappointed is to have your expectations' reversed. My expectations were that Baucus is a health insurance tool, and his bill reflected as such.

So, where's the disappointment?
