Don't FALL for it. The story used to be: "ENERGIZED Dem voter turnout"
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 09:30 AM by blm
But....Republicans can't win with an energized Dem voter turnout, because there are more Dems than there are Republicans.

That is why Republicans are more heavily polled in these bogus polls. That is why stories are spun that Democrats are worried. They won't show you the huge crowds Kerry and Edwards and are receiving. They won't show you the really tough hits and questions Kerry lands on Bush.

The reason is to DEPRESS those Dem voters who are EASILY depressed and EASILY snookered by the media spin. Republicans are masters at manipulating this scenario and have had operatives working at depressing voter turnout on the left for DECADES.

DON'T FALL FOR IT.

1. dems are not home - they are out energizing the base or on the
Internet which ties up their phone or on cell phones

the dems being more intellectual are at concerts, plays, cultural events and generally active in life

the rethugs are drinking beer and sitting on the couch

8. You are right on main point
The repugs are trying to suppress Dem voter turnout. You may see some posts here or elsewhere that it doesn't matter who wins or that all pols are the same. Don't fall for that crap. If we all show up at the polls, we win, if we allow only fanatic wingnuts to turnout in numbers we lose.

I think that Kerry will make a great pres. I do not think he is running a great campaign. He still has six weeks, and he is reputed to be a strong finisher. I'll do my part, and I hope he improves his message.

2. And frankly, the Dem based is ANGRY and wants Bush OUT
even more than we (or at least I) want Kerry in. I like Kerry, I like most of his positions, but I'm energized even more through disgust of what Bush is about.

3. The media are really using their talking points,

telling us over and over that "Kerry can't seem to get his message out" and "Polls show people believe Bush* is better on security issues" BUT WE KNOW BETTER AND WE'RE NOT BUYING WHAT THEY'RE SELLING.

The important questions now are whether they will use their own lies to try to sell us a "Bush* wins" story in November, and what we'll do if they try.

4. This is what happened in WA State's Primary this past Tuesday:
In my county, which has several military bases and can be rather conservative (Gore and Bush basically tied here in 2000, with Gore winning very narrowly), the Democrats this year have over twice as many people registered as the Republicans.

The Dems turned out last Tuesday 2 to 1 and the WA State Repub. party is in a total panic!!

The same 2 to 1 average was true for most of the surrounding counties as well.

On the day before the election, I had at least five calls from the State Democratic party urging me to vote. The Democrats are out there working very hard--the media just isn't reporting it.

5. Now THAT's what gets me excited.
Actual evidence of us being energized over the GOP.

Gawd, hearing things like this fill me with great hope!

12. Exactly.
I heard this first (and the only time before you mentioned it) on DU. I am a fellow Northwesterner, but did the Oregonian or any of the local media outlets report on it? Not that I saw.

That is a very encouraging piece of information, to say the least.

6. Absolutely. Kerry plans to ramp up his attacks on Bush "security" creds
Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 09:39 AM by flpoljunkie
this week even more. This will help to reenergize the base, and must be done. Kerry must go for Bush's conceived, but unearned, strong point--that of being strong on terrorism and making us safe--ludicrous, only maintained to this point by a feckless and compliant media who refuse to see the truth.

Anna Greenberg, Democratic pollster, on C-Span this morning was terrific. Was thrilled to see her pointing out the inequity of polling companies (like Gallup) giving Republicans a +7 advantage in their polls. She and the Republican counterpart, from the Winston Group, both agreed that these polls were done to make news, and were less than accurate, shall we say.

7. Totally Agree!
Great point, blm, and I agree completely.

I am so exasperated with the press announcing over and over that Kerry can't get his message out, he can't connect with the voters, he can't distinguish himself from Duhbya, etc., etc., etc. This is one of those news stories that the press just can't seem to get right, either by neglect or intent. It's like the herd mentality that caused the media to totally give the WH a pass on the weapons of mass destruction. All they seem to do is listen to each other and pass on the same news. I am sick of it.

I think the point that paxmusa makes is right on. The media isn't getting the news right. The Dems' turnout is going to be huge, just like it was in Washington state, and Kerry will have an absolutely stunning win in November. The media won't know what hit it.

We have to stay focused, and not be demoralized by the clueless media.

Let's fight on. There's too much at stake.

9. There may be another effect from this too...
If dems get too complacent because it looks like Kerry's winning in the polls, they might not be energized enough to go out and vote. So negative polls may make us turn out even more.

Yet demoralization from bad polls suppresses turnout too.
 Oh heck, I agree let's just ignore the polls and keep on working as hard as we can...:bounce:

:hi:

13. I agree that is their plan...
But I don't think it's going to work this time. :)
