Budget Chief Contradicts Obama On Medicare Costs
Budget chief contradicts Obama on Medicare costs

By ERICA WERNER (AP)

WASHINGTON — Congress' chief budget officer is contradicting President Barack Obama's oft-stated claim that seniors wouldn't see their Medicare benefits cut under a health care overhaul.

The head of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Douglas Elmendorf, told senators Tuesday that seniors in Medicare's managed care plans would see reduced benefits under a bill in the Finance Committee.

The bill would cut payments to the Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.

Elmendorf said the changes would reduce the extra benefits that would be made available to beneficiaries.

Critics say the plans are overpaid, while supporters say they work well.

Obama says cuts to Medicare providers won't reduce seniors' benefits.

5. Since when does the Finance Committee
speak for the President?

The "bill in the Finance Committee" is not the same as "Obama's oft-stated claim". CBO offers an analysis of the Finance Committee proposed bill. Not the final Bill. Not Obama's proposals. Not Obama's words.

AP does it again. Mangles and distorts. I swear. Their writers are incompetent.

7. Nah
May he lose his government health insurance and have his claim denied. Then may he suffer a horribly painful and disfiguring illness which kills him slowly.

10. Medicare Advantage is run like an HMO.
It is just another boondoggle and should be scrapped instead of whatever it is Baucus is proposing to keep it alive. It was my understanding that Obama wanted to toss it. Even the Medicare lit for those just eligible advises that great care be exercised by seniors thinking of enrolling in it.

11. Medicare Advantage was devised to protect private insurance
from public inroads. It was a monster from the gitgo.
