by Steve Eder

NEW YORK (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's "pay czar" said on Friday he will not cap compensation for the top employees at bailed-out companies, and will not reveal names, when he releases the first wave of decisions within a few weeks.

"We don't want specific names next to dollars," said Kenneth Feinberg, who was appointed in June to decide compensation packages for the highest-paid personnel at companies that received U.S. government bailouts.

The rules do not call for capping pay, Feinberg told a conference here, adding he is faced with setting compensation that discourages excessive risk-taking and that relates pay to performance.

Feinberg said he has the "daunting task of actually determining the compensation," adding, "avoiding excessive risk means different things to different people in different situations."

1. If they're publicly traded companies, doesn't that info have to be made available to the public? nt

2. I love how the OP left out parts of the article that con't contribute to his overall theme.

"The government has laid out general principles that will guide Feinberg's decisions, such as ensuring the contracts do not encourage excessive risk-taking, that they have an appropriate balance of short-term and long-term pay, and that pay is tied to performance.

The pay plans should also be generous enough that the companies can retain top people and become profitable enough to repay taxpayer investments, Treasury has said."

If pay is tied to performance and if risk taking is discouraged and its also geared towards enabling companies to pay back bailout money, then there is nothing to complain about. Thats good enough. I have nothing against people making a lot of money as long as they are held to responsible standards. Considering that banks have all ready been paying back bailout money under the Obama administration's watch, I'll keep quiet and let them continue doing what they are doing and judge based on the end result. So far, they seem to be doing pretty good.

3. It's what was agreed to by the G-20
G-20 to Curb Banker Pay, Coordinate More as Global Crisis Ebbs

Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Group of 20 leaders said they will crack down on banker pay and better align economic policies as they turned from crisis management to delivering a new set of rules for the world economy.

President Barack Obama and counterparts meeting in Pittsburgh crafted a plan to force banks to tie bonuses to risk and raise the amount of capital they hold, officials said, citing a draft of a statement. They pledged to maintain stimulus measures until growth takes hold and to narrow disparities in trade and savings. They also announced the G-20 will replace the G-8 as the main forum for steering the global economy.

Leaders want to temper the excesses that helped trigger the worst financial crisis in seven decades and the deepest recession since World War II. At the same time, richer governments acknowledge they lack the sway to govern the world economy alone as power shifts to emerging markets such as China.

13. One can only speculate what *your* issue is
not to be outraged that our own president and Congress funneled billions of tax dollars to Wall St. crooks who, after having wrecked the economy with their greed, are being given a pass from Obama on it.

Your lack of interest in the topic is curious.

16. Is the following fawning, star-struck, gushing passage written by you?

http://www.opednews.com/articles/Obama-s-Cabinet-Picks-and-by-Steven-Leser-081122-969.html

We know what Obama’s expectations are. He wants to bring an end to the Iraq war as rapidly as possible. He does not believe in torture or extraordinary rendition. He does not believe in warrant-less wiretapping. He believes in Universal Healthcare. He believes in sitting down with leaders of countries with whom we have disagreements to find peaceful solutions to our issues. He has committed to finding the best and brightest people to turn our economy around and that brings me to another point.

The one thing that could stand in the way of even a great leader is if the people under the leader did not have the basic knowledge and abilities to perform the tasks that would be assigned to them. Obama is making sure this is not an issue by hiring some of the most competent and experienced people available. Some of these people may have performed a certain way while on their own or within the administration of a different leader, but that does not mean they will perform the same way under Obama.

Elementary school children have a more realistic understanding of politicians than that ridiculous sycophantic piece.

Hmmm, so the same "energy traders" that like to screw every working stiff in this country by running up gas and heating oil prices need at least 100 mill so they will stay on, huh? Its a good thing for that guy that Americans don't call their leader "El-Presidente for life Yuugal" because if so, his fucking body would be swinging from a lamp post on wall street as an example to greedy fuckheads everywhere.

It doesn't surprise me a bit that the same crooks who made this disaster are now fronting for their friends in the business. 100mill? A year? WTF is wrong with this country? Too bad I cant eat all that dry powder we've been saving my whole life. Oh well, maybe when we get 400 reps and 90 senators we can finally have some of that "change I wish I could believe in".
