Get your party back!
The Republicans cater to their far right because if they don't they will loose election after election. They simply need the fundies and other Neo-Con idiots. The minority voting block they have pissed on for years has grown to be a larger and larger voting block. Their party is now a party of only the far right.

The left on the other hand can be counted on by the Democrats no matter how they are treated to vote for whatever moderate is thrust into the spotlight. Liberals can see in black, white and grey. We see and understand details. For the Republican it only black & white.

What we need to do if we are ever to have single payer or at the bare minimum a "Public Option" is be prepared to walk away from the polls on election day and follow through. We need to shake up the party through tough love. Anything else will only get us more of the same.

2. No, I disagree. I think the only way to shake up the party are massive protests.
We get kicked in the teeth by our supposed liberal party, time and time again. And we keep on taking it.

By not voting, you are in essence voting for a Republicon. The only way we are going to get our Democratic party back is by showing them huge numbers of upset people. We need months, and months long demonstration in DC to get their attention.

My father always told a joke about a mule. This farmer had his mule so well trained that it made people wonder. So a man asked him how was the farmer able to train the mule so well.

The farmer said, "Before I start to teach him I hit him across the head with a 2x4. See," said the farmer, "You have to get his attention first."

We have to get their attention (without 2x4s).

3. I agree that the far right currently panders to the base of their party, but ..........
that is also why they are currently the minority.

Pandering to the far right has made them nothing more than a regional party. The only safe seats for the repubs are in the south and states just slightly east of the west coast (Utah, Wyoming, etc.)

Yeah, we can walk away from the polls in 2012 when Obama is running again, but don't start crying when you hear the words President palin.

4. I am not sure turning things over to the far right by not voting is the way to go.
There has to be better way.

The blue dogs are simply RW democrats. Period. But they are voted in by their constituents and why should I have to tell them how to vote?

On the other hand the blue dogs and centrist Democrats are putting pressure on the administration. It should be the other way around. I have to put some of this on Obama and his cabinet.

On the other other hand, Obama appointed his own cabinet. On the face of it I like the supreme court appointment of Sotomayor - not much else.

Having said all that, a bullshit plan like we have in MA will waste money by channeling it to the insurance companies and their armies of administrative middleman.

The discussion should be about health care for everyone, NOT health insurance for everyone.

5. In my opinion, there is so much wrong with this post

But I'll sum it up quickly - 'the left' will never win until they learn politics. Fund raising. Campaigning. As in all things, it ain't the product - it's how it's promoted and sold.

On edit, how can someone "get something back" they never had?
