Senator Sanders' statement pushes for public option in HELP bill

Statement: Public Option Clearly Needed

September 29, 2009

WASHINGTON, September 29 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement Tuesday after the Senate Finance Committee rejected two amendments to add a public option plan to major health care legislation:

“I am disappointed, although not surprised, that the effort to pass a public option failed in the Senate Finance Committee. Fortunately, there is a public option in the health committee bill and my hope and expectation is that that provision will be part of the final bill. Clearly, if we are serious about cost containment, private insurance companies must have competition from a public plan.”

(emphasis added)

1. Too many assume the Baucus-Grassley mess is the only bill out there. The others have Public Option
and with folks like Harkin, Sanders etc working their tails off we are not going to see much of Baucus-Grassley in the final bill.

3. Bernie Sanders is a socialist, unlike the bought and paid for Democrats
in the US Senate.

We need more Bernie Sanders in the US Senate.
