Huckabee warns GOP on Nobel reaction -- Pawlenty says "appropriate response" is "congratulatations"
Huckabee warns Republicans on Nobel reaction
Posted: October 9th, 2009 11:32 AM ET

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) – Mike Huckabee is advising his fellow Republicans to temper their criticism of President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize award.

In a posting on his blog, the former GOP presidential candidate writes that members of his party must be careful their comments don't sound like "right-wing whining."

"There will be an outcry from those on the right who will say that Obama's nomination, made two weeks into his presidency, is impossible to justify, but I think such an outcry will sound like right-wing whining," Huckabee wrote. "The better response is simply to allow those on the left to explain what he did in his first two weeks as President that merited such recognition."

Tim Pawlenty says the 'appropriate response' to Obama winning the Nobel Prize is to say 'congratulations.'

4. LOL we can already see who the 2012 candidates are right now
Pawlenty and Huckabee both want to run and they probably realize that whining about this won't help them should get the nomination.

7. True.
I just think it's funny that Huckabee qualifies his remarks with "if the left can show what Obama did in his first two weeks as President..." blah blah blah.

11. I'd refer the Huckster to Obama's own statement on it
That this is a call to action not necessarily an award for things already done.

5. Yep, Pawlenty's got it right...
I don't necessarily agree with this selection, but it IS a high honor for the Boss. Personally, I'm wondering whatinhell is wrong with the nominating committee - Obama hadn't been in office 3 months yet.
The only problem I see here is where do you go from "up"?

8. They won't. They hate Obama and nothing will ever change it. They
aren't democrats anymore, as far as I'm concerned.

6. Here's a photo from 2006, Huckster

He was a force for good around the world long before he was elected. Maybe that had something to do with his being nominated in February.

Seems his election was pretty big news overseas, too:

Keep underestimating the power of Obama, dipshits.

9. Its not up the the left to explain anything, its up to the Nobel Prize committee....
and they did.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

10. Very rarely do I agree with Huckabee or Pawlenty on anything but...
this is definately an area where I can agree.

The more stink they make the more the world will know what a bunch of sour grapes that run the republican party.

Even they know how bad the GOP reaction makes them look. Joe and Mika should take note. They sounded like sourgrape anti-American assholes this morning, from what I read since I didn't watch their shitty show.

13. Hey Huck...
...any chance the committee might have been considering the things Obama had been doing BEFORE he was elected and not just his presidency?

The whole "two weeks" thing is just Huckabee's weasely way of putting down the nomination. God'll get 'im for that, I'm sure. :eyes:

14. The two weeks line is typical BS to minimize this award.
There is a period of time longer than two weeks between nominations and actual voting.

Obama has done much before becoming president. I think it was awarded becasue Obama has a vision that includes negotiations which was stated before he was elected. This is in line with the goals of the prize. They are also awarding the process, not the results in this case.

It's up to YOU to explain where the hell you got the idea that the Nobel committee only looked at his first two weeks when they made their decision.

What an assclown.

Not to defend Huckabee, but that's what he was talking about.
