Yeah, I said it.

And they're getting madder and madder and sloppier and sloppier to the point that one of them is going to slip up and say it for real.

96. Obama represents a dramatic departure from the Bush administration.
Even though our nation has been badly crippled by the arrogant Bush-Cheney administration, we still are the most powerful nation in the world with massive military capacity. What I see in President Obama is a dramatic departure from the Bush administrations absolute misuse of this power to achieve their political goals. This goal was the stated goal of the PNAC neo-cons that dominated the Bush-Cheney administration to dominate control of the Middle East oil reserves which they continue to believe is essential for the maintenance of our power.

I believe that what the awarding the Nobel Peace Price to President Obama signifies is their recognition of the dramatic renouncement of the PNAC's policies of the use of our military might to subjugated defenseless nations. It represents a denouncement of the Bush administrations policies that justified exploitation by greedy power hungary madmen that, at worst, could result in catastrophic nuclear warfare. Isn't it a fact that it is the abuse of power by the Western nations of the sovereignty of the Middle Eastern countries that is a major factor for the hatred and contempt in which the majority of people in this region rightly hold for us? Obama represents hope for a douncement of these policies that have resulted in division and hatred.

Maybe it'll be a sweet potato pie. It should be humble pie they start baking - for themselves. With eggs, assuming there are any left over besides all the egg on all of their faces.

And you make another terrific point. "Blazing Saddles" really should be played in PoliSci classes. It's a fantastic example of social satire and the arts commenting on politics.

And as far as the potential pie-baker... heavens - michele bachmann? "mean jean" schmidt? virginia foxx? Maybe ileana ros lehtinen? Makes me chuckle just to think about it!

78. I am proud to be an American because Obama does us proud.
I am heartily ashamed of some Americans because they just don't "get" it that, by honoring our President, the Nobel Prize committee has acknowledged that our nation has rejoined the global community in a positive manner.
That doesn't mean that everything we are doing is perfect or that Obama's policies don't need adjustment and correction. It does mean that under Obama the disastrous course that was set under *Co and that was adversely affecting other nations on the globe (not only the obvious Iraq and Afghanistan), as well as adversely affecting our own global interests, has taken a new tack that inspires all nations that there is indeed light at the end of the very dark tunnel *Co plunged us into. And the real hope is that the light is not a nuclear holocaust.

30. Of course you are free to wonder. It still doesn't make it true. This
is a discussion board but by and large people discuss news topics. Most of these topics would fall into the "bad news" category as "good news" is considered boring and lacks ratings.

Therefore, the majority of topics will be on things that President Obama has said or done that would generate discussion. Because we are democrats, we do not simply follow a leader because he is the head of our party. That would be Free Republic. You have a larger pool of discussion topics that are controversial vs non-controversial so it stands to reason that when President Obama does something that is not keeping with a purely progressive theme, we tend to bitch.

We also have a cheer-leading section here who do not like to acknowledge that President Obama is not the Messiah.

It really goes both ways, but to sum it up - you are overreacting and making it worse by calling fellow democrats racist.

39. There were several Clinton supporters who were basically republicans
in disguise who were anxious to see a woman become president. I saw things from them during the campaign that were blatantly racist so yes, I concede that I suppose these people could technically be called democrats because they registered as democrats and yes, they were racist.

But the progressive members of our party are not racist - they are angry about things which have nothing to do with race.

Things such as the continuation of two wars, DADT, the Marriage Act, comprising away Health Care in the name of bi-partisanship, - just to name a few, are why some progressives are angry and it has nothing to do with race.

129. Who do not like to acknowledge that President Obama is not the Messiah?
That is really a condescending statement. I don't remember anyone here claiming Obama is the Messiah, except for those campaigning against him. He's not perfect, but he is a far cry from being as horrible as some posters on this board try to paint him as being.

I think he's a good president who has gone a long way to living up to the promises he ACTUALLY made. The people doing the most pissing and moaning are the people who are pretending he promised something that he didn't. For example, he said all of the way through his campaign that his goal was to get combat troops out of Iraq during the 1st 18 months of his presidency. Also, that he would be as careful getting out as Bush was careless getting into Iraq. He's keeping those promises. He has been in office 8 months and is reducing the troop levels. He has 10 months to go. Yet there are daily grip sessions because he hasn't kept his promises to end the war in Iraq.

He has kept his promises, he just hasn't kept the fantasy promises some here thought he made. There are also some here complaining that he isn't fighting for single payer health insurance. This is something that he never promised that he would fight for yet he is some kind of satan for not fighting hard enough for.

I could go on.

It seems to me that the people who think he is the Messiah are the people griping because he hasn't created world peace and rid of the world of illness and bigotry yet. And not the ones who refuse to bitch about him not doing things he never promised he was going to do in the 1st place. Nor those who refuse to blame the Bush economic crisis on him.

33. Interesting - expressing attitudes based on bigotry=discussion. Calling it out= racism
As someone posted a few weeks ago, it is very interesting that it is considered much worse to have someone else called out as a racist than it is to BE a victim of racism.

People can be very sensitive at the very MENTION that something could be racist, yet they willingly turn a blind eye to the very existence of that racism.

This "discussion" is a perfect example - since the "discussion" itself is based upon the assumption b some that America's first black president is somehow undeserving of an award that has been given to hundreds of white people without a peep from any of those who are now wringing their hands about how honoring President Obama besmirches the award.

This may not seem like a big deal to some people, especially those who have never been on the receiving end of this kind of prejudice, but I will bet you that most black people on this board and elsewhere see it for what it is because we have experienced this very phenomenon throughout our lives.

I cannot tell you how many times my professional achievements have been looked at askance and attributed to some factor other than my own intelligence, talent and hard work. And on more occasions than I can count, my achievement has suddenly been seen as not such a big deal - although it WAS a big deal indeed when made by a white person - or was treated as some kind of "lowering of standards."

What is happening to the President - not just the Nobel crap, but so many other things we are seeing - is par for the course for accomplished black people. It's just getting a bigger spotlight because of who he is and what he is accomplishing. But it is nothing new. And it is sickening.

And even more disgusting is seeing how many so-called "liberal" Democrats either don't see it or refuse to see it and, in fact, play right along with it.

So, yes, I called it out for what it is. It's unfortunate that it offends you. And it's too bad that you reject it out of hand and attack me for pointing it out rather than try to actually consider the possibility that I'm speaking the truth.

37. I will be the first to agree that the republican reasoning for feeling he
is undeserving is based on racism - but I do not believe that the very progressive members of our party are racist. They are angry - but it has nothing to do with his race. They would be angry if he were white and still feel he was undeserving.

No. Of course you're not. It's a-okay to use the word - but not okay to think he's a racist for using it.

racist behavior towards African Americans on this Board. However, in thinking about it, I have seen racist remarks directed towards Muslims and Hispanics...so I guess I can't say that racism does not exist on this board.

And yes, I know that racism isn't a race....not sure where I made the grammatical error but thanks for pointing it out.

14. There are many reasoned objections to Obama's prize.
I've already said I'm proud that our president won the prize, but that doesn't discount the very real objections to awarding it to this president at this time. Playing the race card so vehemently really cheapens the discussion.

53. Assuming that bringing it up in this context is akin to attributing every criticism
to racism is just silly. A black man wins the Presidency. That same black man wins hte Nobel Prize. Scores of white folks try to tell us why it really doesn't matter, it's not that big a deal, he didn't really deserve it, there was somebody more deserving of it, yadayadayada. I've heard it all before. In the south in the late 1960s. When my white family told ME why it would hurt my education if I went to school with the black children. I bought it all then, because I was a kid and those were my parents talking.

No more.

It's up to the Nobel committee and they give the prize on their terms. It is not a lifetime achievement award, something I've learned from all this. This thing about ignorant Americans is that they always assume they know what they are talking about rather than looking into things first.

67. Ah.
You've joined the ranks of Maureen Dowd. Offended at others because of what their own inner voices tell them others must be saying.

My brother-in-law hears voices, some of which arrive at his brain via his ears, others of which are entirely self-produced. In his case, the internal, self-produced voices are beyond his control. But at least he knows to ignore the inner voices when they don't match up what the acoustic information hitting their tympani. Sometimes when they don't match up and the voices are insistent, he fact-checks them: "Ma, it is really true that the neighbor was over here last night and said he was a spy for Stalin?" ("Of course not, dear, Stalin's dead.") Or, "Ma, I was told that the neighbor actually has a tinfoil hat--does she" (Of course, the last question has the unhelpful answer: "Only in part, dear--it's a colander lined with tinfoil.")

In the days prior to hearing voices he was also around a rather diverse set of people. Okay, they were nearly all white, and pretty much every one was male (even, to hear him talk, some of the women). Eh. Data-driven earth scientists. Still, they ran the gamut from near anarchist to very conservative. One thing they all took away from their group, he was at pains to explain to me one day, was that no one person is a true portrayal of everybody in his/her group: The anarchist was not "Every Anarchist", the conservative failed to be the spit and image of a hypothetical "Generalized Conservative", etc. They were themselves, not idealized exponents of their cohorts, forever on trial as proxies for their group. That way lay stereotyping, over-generalization, and fallacy. . . . Whether the group be political, gender, ethnic, race, or any other. Their faults were their own, their virtues were their own, whatever the distribution of said faults or virtues among their peers.

Empowere posted something earlier that sums it up:

"Much of this is not based on hatred - it's confusion born of racism
Many of these people truly believe that blacks are intellectually, socially, politically and morally inferior to whites and truly cannot understand how this African-American man keeps achieving these things - and why no one else but them seems to find it strange.

What is happening conflicts with their perception of reality and it's very confusing and frustrating for them."

Same mental slur, a few different ways of phrasing it. A black man who "talks but doesn't work".

It's a racist meme at its very core... and was (and is) promoted by everybody from Glenn Beck... to Hillary Clinton.

I'm not surprised to see it on DU, just saddened... maybe 100 years from now, people won't have to work twice as hard if they're a woman, or black, or hispanic, or irish, whatever.

Until then, this will keep coming up.

I don't see him as a black man, a white man, or anything else other than a man, who happens to be the President.

And that n****r just might be the man that brings about real health care reform, and that would help those lower on the economic ladder where a great deal of those who despise him reside.

They will hate him all the while taking the benefits he, and the democrats have generated for them.
