Edited on Sat Sep-18-04 02:47 AM by OneBlueSky
I've come to the conclusion that anyone who supports the election of George W. Bush is an idiot . . . I have no respect for these people because they refuse to use their heads for anything besides hat racks . . . I don't want to associate with them, to talk with them, to interact with them in any way . . . their stupidity is a direct threat to my country and to my own civil rights and liberties, and I want nothing to do with them . . . may all their sons and daughters be drafted and sent to Iraq on the next available flight . . .

just had to get that off my chest . . .

I came to the conclusion LONG ago if you are supporting George Bush you are either a racist, stupid, greedy or all of the above.

I've lost a 35 year friendship over this election. A man I loved like a brother. I can't even LOOK at him anymore.

6. I know exactly what you mean
I'm a graphic designer and my boss is a talented artist herself. She's a very nice person with whom we get along really well (me and all the women in my department). But she's a Republican. I remember after the 2000 debacle, we were all talking about Bush and she said "I think Bush is going to do a really good job!" We were all dumbfounded. How could an intelligent, creative women be a Bush supporter.

Well three years passed and all of the women in my department became more and more infuriated about Bush. We talk about it endlessly. My boss never joins in but neither does she make positive comments about Bush. I was just starting to wonder if maybe she was seeing the light (how could you NOT, you know?).

Well one night recently, a woman from another department was leaving to start at a new job. A few of us (my boss included) were chatting with her and wishing her well. She thanked us and admitted she was nervous about her new job. She said (unaware that my boss is a repub) "I'm nervous that I won't like my co-workers as much as the people here. What if my new boss is a Republican?" My boss got a weird look on her face. The woman asked "OMG are you a Repbublican? DID I JUST OUT YOU?!?!?" My boss responded "Well we ARE the more INCLUSIVE party!"

So I guess she still hasn't seen the light. It's so strange to me. She's otherwise such a nice person, but what the fuck!?

I wonder if this is what it felt like to be in Nazi Germany and finding out that people you care about were supporting Hitler and turning a blind eye to the fact that human beings were being exterminated left and right. Or, during the Civil War, finding out your brother still felt okay about having slaves.

It's so hard not to look at an otherwise rational, intelligent, good-hearted person and not want to shake them and yell "SNAP OUT OF IT! BUSH IS A LYING MURDEROUS THUG!!!!!"

19. Exactly, Grace. I have this exact problem at work. It's astounding
that after all the shit the last 4 years, the Repubs aren't tearing down the White House walls THEMSELVES to drag that traitor out and stomp him. Amazing, just amazing. But they just continue to "believe" in this moron! I have a friend who is not a fundie even, but she is still going to vote for Bush* because she is still drinking the Koolaid.

Anyone who wants to read what is was really like to see all your friends and coworkers slowly turn into Nazis needs to read this book by Sebastian Hafner: "Defying Hitler." He lived through this in Germany, and escaped to England just in time. He describes the transformation of the normally nice folks around him. Chilling.

24. I have 2 very good friends
that I just don't talk politics with.

One of them is a dentist and his Republican principles are ONLY economic ones-as a high income earner, he votes Republican because they let him keep more money(single issue interest!)The last election, he and his wife actually tried to get ME to their side (was that a lost cause!!!). I have recently started a new business and he confidently predicts that I'll turn (NEVER!!!!) when it becomes successful and I start making more money. He does not understand there is not enough money to make me vote for pure evil (BFEE).

The other is a gay College Professor who is a Registered Republican (why??). I think I will be able to turn this one around.

I won't mention my wife's brother who is a Freeper!! I almost quit going to her family functions during the Clinton Impeachment.Couldn't take it!!

Which is really driving me crazy. I'm becoming as angry and hate-filled towards them as they are towards me. I don't WANT to be like this, you know? They've just pushed me over the edge. I'm hoping after we get Kerry/Edwards in office, then the neocons will have been dealt a blow that will diminish them forever, and I can finally return to practicing those liberal ideals I preach.

...he actually DOES protect their interests. Those extremely wealthy people who live on their dividend checks would be complete fools to vote against Bush, who lowered their taxes to 15%. I'm certain that they're quite well informed as to which side their bread is buttered on, so I suppose a certain grudging respect for those types is necessary.

As much respect as you can muster for a parasite, anyway.

25. Bush's career depends on voters being idiots!
He depends on the fact that people will not look at his recod and gauge what he actually has accomplished.

It also depends on the fact that he can exploit Hot Button issues (patriotism, Religion, etc) that can entice these numbskulls to vote against their own self interest.

Scared little rats looking to George to protect them from the phantom 'terra-ists'.

You gotta be a real pussy to support a WIMP like Bush, who was a CHEERLEADER in high school, AWOL in Vietnam, AWOL on 9/11, and has to have Cheney hold his fucking hand during the 9/11 commission 'interview'.

Bush is a pussy and so are his limp-wristed, wimpy, pathetic, frightened little supporters.

There, I said it. Whew. Flame away over my sexist language. I don't care. I can take it. I'm not afraid to face MY detractors, unlike Bush, who, might I remind you, is a PUSSY!

26. Iraq is NOT about terrorism. That's the point we need to keep pounding
home. I'm from a very small town in NC. I just finished working voter registration and again I feel disappointed in my neighbors who are supporting Bush. I see the anger in their faces when they realize that I'm a Democrat. I have known and loved these people all of my life. Heck, I'm probably kin to most of them. Anyway, they are very angry at Kerry - not because of Vietnam but because they think he wants to negotiate with the terrorists while Bush wants to attack and kill them all. ALL of them think Iraq is about terrorism.

32. Another political bigot here
I have a friend who votes republican because, get this: her mother is liberal, but they don't get along. Her father is republican and they get along swell. So she votes republican. That's it. That's her reason.
She's a nice person, but her feelings do not go very deep. Not that she is shallow, she's just "not there."

I find myself sizing people up according to their political party now. I try to like certain republicans. I mean, they can't all be bad. But I grit my teeth when I see a Bush/Cheney sticker, or see Bush supporters on TV. I quit the support group I belong to because the republican influence was too strong. When I see Support Our Troops stickers along with a Christian sticker, I know enough to stay away. Two American flags flying off someones car makes me nervous.

I though I was open to anyones beliefs. I am not. Not republicans.

28. Ahhh... the tolerance.
I have freepers on my street that are ok to be around if we can steer the conversation around politics. You are a little too militant. I will admit, when I meet someone and like them, I almost don't want to know where they stand because it might make me lose respect for them. But wishing their children to die for their parent's political beliefs is a little harsh.

I have freepers on my street that are ok to be around if we can steer the conversation around politics.

You could just as easily be talking about Genghis Khan.

There's a simple fact here that often goes unaddressed and that is that people have a Personal Responsibility for their actions. Voting is not meant to entertaining or pleasant; It is a civic duty, and people should be held responsible for their decisions. If they want OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN to risk THEIR lives to keep their own butts safe and secure, that may not make it admirable to wish ill on their children, but I don't see anything immoral or inconsistent about wanting this people to have an actual stake in their decisions, instad of having the burden fall on OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN.

41. My Wife and I Canvassed for Kerry Today
I agree it is VERY tough to bite your tongue sometimes. My wife and I went door-to-door in Rockledge, Florida today. Everyone on our "canvassing" list was a registered Democrat, in an upper middleclass neighborhood. No one was rude to us, but out of fifteen, only two people were "leaning toward" Kerry. Most of the rest said they were "undecided." Undecided?????? I had imagined that the undecideds had to be sub-moronic, but it turns out that they are my (and your) neighbors.

We were pretty depressed to find no strong Kerry supporters on a list comprised of Democrats! The capper came when an off-duty cop cleaning up hurricane debris from his yard said he was "sorry" and turned his back on us when we told him we were talking to people about Kerry. That sucked, but we felt we had to stay positive. We spent a few seconds more in civil conversation just to be sure he knew the kind of people that support John Kerry.

That's the challenge for all of us right now.

is a delightful elderly woman who looks exactly like the person Central Casting sent out to play a retired school teacher (which she is). She's fond of saying in her sweetest, most polite voice, "One on one, Republicans are some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet, but when you get three or four of them together, they want to take over the goddamned world."

It always cracks me up when she says that.
