Schollenberger runs for Senate
Prairie Village resident Charles Schollenberger announced his candidacy Thursday for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate at the Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Site in Topeka.

Schollenberger, 57, said he made the final decision after devoting six months to traveling throughout the state to meet with members of the Democratic Party. He is the only Democrat to enter the race.

"I believe that Kansas Democrats are looking for leadership from a candidate who is not afraid to get out among the people and wage a grass-roots campaign," he said.

U.S. Reps. Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt, both Kansas Republicans, are battling for the GOP nomination for the seat to be vacated by Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan. Brownback is running for governor.
