7. I loved the comments of one Gerald Baker on "the national parks"--saying that, while the white guys
were standing on some mountain or other, claiming they had "discovered" it, his people were looking at them from behind the rocks, saying "all you had to do was ask us"

11. Reminds me of an old Flip Wilson routine
in Flip Wilson's "female" voice: "Who in the hell are you?"

"I'm Christopher Colombus"

"What do you want?"

"I'm here to discover you."

"Discover US?"

"Yes"

"We don't need to be discovered. You better discover your ass on away from here!"

14. Yeah he tried to kill every native in the Americas?
We did far worse to the Native Americans while and after we created the U.S. than Columbus ever did. And yet I have Cherokee in my blood, and their are still many full blooded Cherokee in NC. Seams we stoped well short of genocide. I do support, much more support for Native Americans, but what's done is done.

26. Apparently Carter didn't do that much.
http://www.longestwalk.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=142&Itemid=108

"I think President Carter's stand on human rights is fantastic. He's really doing a wonderful job of running around the world screaming about how the human rights of people of different nationalities have been violated. It's just too bad that he doesn't take more time to do the research that will show there are millions of poor whites and blacks, Chicanos, Asians, and Indians whose human rights are being violated here in the United States."

Lehman Brightman, California college professor and South Dakota Sioux Indian, flavored his words with a heavy salting of sarcasm. He had good reason for his disenchantment with our nation's chief executive.

Brightman was one of the national coordinators of the Longest Walk (see articles on following pages), and he and other leaders of the thousands of Indian walkers had hoped, and worked every angle, for a meeting with the President.
