Obama will be the Democrats' own Anti-FDR if this health-care "reform" bill passes
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 06:29 PM by brentspeak
1) A so-called "public option" available only to 5-10% of the population (if at that). That's not a "public option"; that is a lie posing as a public option.

2) Upwards of around $1 trillion of taxpayer money, forked over primarily to corporate health insurance pockets. From your pockets to their pockets. Similar to how http://metavid.org/wiki/Stream:Senate_proceeding_10-01-08_00/2:38:38/2:53:07">Obama was the Democratic point man in the Senate to fork over your money to the banks on behalf of Bush's TARP in 2008.

3) Reduction in Medicare payments and services

4) A mandate -- a requirement -- for everybody in the nation to purchase a corporate health insurance plan. It does not matter if you want to purchase one or not, or even if you can afford to purchase one or not -- the Obama plan will force you to purchase one whether you like it or not.

1. Man, you are determined. And quoting the wsj no less! What final
bill has the President signed, and how did the wsj get so prescient?

2. This is not the bill that will be voted on by the full Congress, and it
is NOT the bill that will go to the President's desk.

WSJ is also not a place I quote often here on DU.

3. The WSJ didn't make up Obama's stumping on behalf of a corporate mandate
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 06:27 PM by brentspeak
That was Obama we saw in front of the entire nation, on several occasions, give a speech pressing for just that very thing.

4. actually. . just a mandate.
I believe the PO will make it's way in. And there will be significant subsidies.

5. What do you consider to be "the PO"?
Anything less than at least 40-50% of the American population being eligible to enroll in a public option will mean the end of any Democratic majority in Congress for decades to come. And also Obama's one and only term.

12. What?
"Anything less than at least 40-50% ... eligible to enroll in a public option ... end of any Democratic majority in Congress for decades to come..."

Yeah, screw gay rights, social justice, unions, peaceful military, pro-choice, food aid, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PUBLIC OPTION!

Uh, yeah, this isn't a one-issue party.

6. Do you know the details of the final bill?
Oh wait! The final bill hasn't been completed yet!! So therefore you don't know how many people it will cover.

15. The final bill has even been started on. They just passed Baucus' bill yesterday.
I'm sure they'll take a week vacation and then the merging and meetings and all that drama will commence.

7. Dude enough with the Obama bashing from you. We'll all see where Obama stands
during conference committee. Until then, take a few days off with your bitching and moaning reacting to whatever the media throws at you.

9. Obama said 5% would sign up
and CBO numbers tend to be very conversative. There will be no cuts in Medicare payments that's a right wing lie the cuts are to Medicare Advantage.

and if anything resembling it passes, a lot of people (especially Democrats) will be very sorry indeed.

27. The bill that gets through the next phases of 'legislating' won't look ANYTHING
like the piece o' shit they're crowing about up there now.

There will be plenty to hate in the final bill, I assume, but this hysteria and hatred for Obama for a bill not signed into law yet is really getting to be a bit much.

There be trolls here....

a Democratic president could ever have helped foster.

It doesn't take a genius to see how the public will react when they discover that $1 trillion of their money will be handed over to Big Insurance, and the many ways their lives will be made more difficult/expensive as a result.

25. The following post is the real definition of "sad and pathetic"
Your laugh-out-loud explanation as to why those senators who rejected Bernie Sanders' proposed credit card interest rate cap did so:

24. You kind of missed all the good points that are common to all the plans
The fact is that there are some significant good things in the bill and the Finance bill is not the final bill. The fact is that you are still angry Obama won. It is doubtful legislation would have looked any different with a President Hillary Clinton - and there would be no reform with McCain. (It would not be any better with a President Edwards, but he would have lost to McCain anyway.)
