Down is bad, up is... not important

Down is bad, up is... not important

by Devilstower

What did the right say when the stock market was trailing downward in January? It was very, very important, and a critical indicator of Obama's economic plan.

"There's no confidence in Obama's plan," said Fox's Sean Hannity. "The markets respond to data. They have no confidence."

"The stock market is also demonstrating a lack of confidence in the president's big government agenda," said CNN's Lou Dobbs.

The always "fair and balanced" Murdochers over at the Wall Street Journal had a prescription for Obama. Only by "channeling Ronald Reagan" could he stave off "Dow 5000."

Dear Mr. President,

Unfortunately, it’s true. The stock market doesn’t like you.

Only one month in and investors are giving up.

<...>

So, what does the right have to say when the Dow touches 10,000 -- an increase of over 2,000 pts and 25% since Obama took office? Crickets:

Dow 10,000 just isn't that big a deal, House Republican leader John Boehner said Wednesday morning. ... "At the end of the day, the American people aren't looking at the stock market in terms of putting food on the table," Boehner said. "They want jobs, and they want them now."

Absolutely. God knows, the Republicans have never been interested in the stock market!

important and of course it will be a verdict on the President and his policies. You can read these guys like clock work. It is a Bill Clinton recession that George Bush inherited, then it is the Obama recession and Bush Recovery. They take responsibility for nothing and take credit for everything. If the President manages to navigate us through these tough times and creates jobs by the end of his first term it will of course be due to George Bush and the Republicans even though they have voted against and obstructed everything this President has tried to do with the most hateful rhetoric imaginable. I pray that Obama is successful because it will take at least two terms and another Democratic President to undo all the damage that has been done by the Republicans and George Bush.

2. From January to March, there was constant chatter on the RW blogosphere blaming Obama for
...the tanking DOW.

Now... they don't want to talk about it.

Keith and Rachel and others need to go out an replay the quotes.

Actually... Jon Stewart would probably do it best.

3. What's "important" is that the repukes keep harping
away at President Obama in hope that he'll fail bc they have nothing. Their only hope is that he fails.

Lots of idiots want PO to fail but he's not going to do it.

4. How do we square this with those on DU who are dismissing this milestone as well
I find the parallels interesting at times.

5. That's because to a great extent......they want the same thing.....
the Failure of an Obama Presidency....

cause in the end, both sets want to say....See, I told you so! Told you I was right!

That's all that counts with them, to have been right, even if they weren't all along!

Each set makes me weary in different ways.....but weary nevertheless.

7. I suspect when the job market recovers, someone will find a talking point to
try to snatch the credit from Obama.

Placing faith in their foibles is a prelude to disappointment.
