2010 Pennsylvania Democratic Primary: Specter 46%, Sestak 42%
Thursday, October 15, 2009

So much for Arlen Specter’s party switch to avoid a risky primary. The incumbent Pennsylvania senator’s 2010 Democratic Primary race against challenger Joe Sestak is now a toss-up.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Democratic Primary voters in the state finds Specter with just a four-point lead over Sestak – 46% to 42%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and 10% are undecided.

In early August, Specter had a 13-point lead over the two-term congressman from the Philadelphia suburbs. In June, Sestak trailed by 19 points.

Support for Specter in the primary has stayed relatively stable, declining just five points since June. However, support for Sestak has increased by 10 percentage points in recent months.

Sestak runs even with likely Republican candidate Pat Toomey in an early look at the 2010 general election Senate contest in Pennsylvania, while Specter is now five points behind the man he once feared would beat him in next year’s GOP Primary.

1. Adjusted Rasmussen Poll (to correct for their inherent GOP bias)
Sestak leads Toomney by 4. Specter and Toomney tied.

Rasmussen Rule: always add 5 points for the Democrat.

6. OMG!
Obama might lose Pennsylvania! McCain is narrowing the lead! Keep your eyes on Pennsylvania.

Oh scratch that. Obama wins by 10%.

Yea, I assume much leeway when it comes to polls of Pennsylvana - or any polls, for that matter - this far out from Rasmussen. I really think they force themselves to get accurate near the election, but from far away? It's all geared to elevate the GOP.

2. I'm supporting Sestak but I don't even believe that he's

closed a 35+ point gap to 4 points. I'll wait to more reputable pollsters match this before I read to much into it.

5. I am sure many think that it is simply time for Specter to retire
Nothing to do with the man personally. Just time.

7. PA
There Is backlash against Specter for the switch. Now If I lived In PA I would be voting for Sestak
In the primary, and would relcunetly vote for Specter In the general If he wins the Primary.

Remember Toomey Is trying to fool people Into thinking he Is a moderate. When the primary Is over
eather Specter or Sestak will remind voters of the real Toomey.Untill Fall 2010 Ignore 2010 polls from
RAS.Untill you are In general election mode RAS Is purely Republican BS.And even then RAS may not be
entirly accurate as some of PA 2008 Polls showed.

8. If it's the Rasmussen, then you know that Toomey is doing quite badly.
And Spector is the one probably trailing Sestak.

At any rate, I will be traveling to my neighboring state of Pennsylvania and will work my ass off for Sestak!!
