10/15: Obama's Got His Finger On The Trigger
Liberal bloggers are growing increasingly critical of Pres. Obama's and Senate Maj. Leader Harry Reid's (D-NV) approach to getting a health care bill out of the Senate. Now that all of the relevant Senate commmittees have passed their health care bills, the netroots believe that it's up to Reid and Obama to determine whether or not the merged bill includes a public option. However, lefty bloggers are growing increasingly frustrated with Reid's "inability to keep his caucus together" and ensure that all 60 Dems vote for cloture on a bill containing a public option. Furthermore, now that anonymous WH officials are telling The New York Times that the WH favors Sen. Olympia Snowe's (R-ME) trigger compromise, liberal bloggers are starting to doubt that the Obama admin. will push Reid to include a public option in the merged bill. Like many on the left, John Aravosis feels betrayed:

9. Senators are independent of party, on the take, and won't vote for cloture. How to get Ben Nelson to
do the best thing for the country?

12. I guess these same bloggers ignored Obama when he told them over a month ago
to not overreact with what they see coming out of committees or what they hear in the news. He just wants to get it to conference. They just ignored that. He told them the plan, too bad they didn't listen.

19. Here's an idea: let's bring back
Clinton.

He would take a stand.

BTW, if you're still arguing that Obama hasn't taken a stand, you aren't paying attention.

24. Disagreeing or being critical of the President doesn't make a hater or a right
wing supporter. It is not either you're with us or against us situation like it was under Bush, but some of you see it that way.

25. no, not at all. i can tell the difference between people with valid objections\concerns and those
who do it because they can't stand the guy.

i don't consider you in the group for what it's worth.

22. As i've said for months -- it will be a PO WITH a shitty Trigger ... (i hope im wrong)
I am hoping just for a strong PO but everything over the months just keeps pointing to a PO with a trigger and so i am still sticking with this. Presently it appears Reid and the WH have anointed Snowe as president and so the best they are hoping for is her royal wishes of a very weak ineffective trigger...

I am sooo hoping i am wrong and it is a BIG surprise and we get a strong PO with no trigger. But every time i say this the first thought that comes to mind is "Reid"....god help america....

And soo, my best realistic hope is that after the trigger PO passes (which is at least a step in the right direction, although a poor one) then in time maybe 10-15 years it will be ammended to be actually beneficial for the people. America gets change based on bread crumbs and so although i will be disappointed in Reid's release (we all will, likely) at least it will finally get the ball to move an inch or two and give more hope for future generations to push it all the way. If i recall Social Security and Medicare didnt start off very good but had several ammendments that improved it .. of course there are inefficiencies in them today but much better than when they started...i expect the same.

23. when will this thing be decided? I'll need to know
by early January.

Seriously, I'm halfway through medical lab tech school. Thanks to blatant lies by the advisor/sales sleaze, it's going to cost nearly triple what it should have. With currently downward pressures on income, the salary no longer justifies the expense.

If Obama is going to let Olympia Snowe run health care in the country, that makes my decision whether or not to cut my losses at walk away much easier. The health care insurance industry will squeeze costs by further cutting income for med lab techs and other highly skilled, but invisible, health care workers.
