Fourth-Grader To Obama: Why Does Everyone Hate You?

At a town hall event in New Orleans, President Obama took a question from a fourth-grader named Terrence who wanted to know, "Why does everyone hate you?"

"They're supposed to love you," he continued.

After the crowd swooned, Obama responded that the boy should take criticism of him with "a grain of salt."

"One party feels like they need to poke you, keep you on your toes," he said.

"When things are tough, you're gonna get some of the blame," Obama said. But, he added, "I'm a tough guy. Are you a tough guy? You look pretty tough."

A customer at work said, "Imagine that little boy growing up and thinking.." "Wow, I asked the President of the United States why does everyone hate you, they're suppose to love you..God is Love"!!:patriot:

PObama was pure class in his answer.:D

No kidding! WhistleAss. About the only thing I miss about those very very dark days - the vigorous exercise of that nickname around DU! One little teeny weenie bright spot. We detested his policies, his war, his lies, his greed, his negligence, his arrogance, his ignorance, his pigheadedness, his phony piety, his phony cowboy shtick, his phony everything else, his choice of friends, advisors, and puppetmasters, and the way he embarrassed this country in public from sea to shining sea - and OVERseas - on countless occasions. But at least we could refer to him by such names as WhistleAss. The schmuck. Deserved that and a whole lot more!!!

And there ain't no hate like DU hate. We're not violent. It's not STUPID hate (well, sometimes). It's incisive, surgical hate.

Among the ancient Celts, a bard could bring down a king with satire. The political power may be gone, but the talent's still around. :)

11. I love how Mr. Obama doesn't talk down to people.
Especially young people. Its so nice to have a President who isn't condescending and stupid. It's as though Mr. Obama feels all of us are important and intelligent enough to deserve a fairly straight response. He may not do everything I hope he'll do as president but I will never regret voting for him.

26. Bush was a petulant, not-all-that-bright, spoiled child himself.
Many fourth-graders have a maturity level far above his. On some level he knew this and resented it. That's why his "style" of "speaking" grated on the ear so much - he was always lecturing to an audience in his mind rather than the real one in front of him, and that audience is as dumb as he is--thankfully, that's a fairly small percentage of the population. (About 28% if you go by his ending approval ratings).

And I never saw a picture of him with a baby or child who looked happy to be there.

Obama's response was perfect. I love the way he responds to kids like, well, people. What a change after a squatter who didn't treat ANYONE except his CEO golf buddies like people.
