1. Let's see: a real majority. In the Senate, is that 80 or 90 senators?
;-)

3. No, probably a 160,
maybe a few more.Of course if they couldn't be bought we would need less.

2. Depends on the definition of "we" I guess
Things might change if the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party is able to wrest control from the centrist DINOS.

5. Very good point.
Guess it is all about the definition of "we". I stand with the 45,000, it looks like we're becoming all too aware of where the party we've all supported stands, with the big rich fat corporations.

4. That's pretty funny..
If you ignore the fact that for the first time in 60 years we're about to have real HCR, and that's just for starters.

I don't know what your snarky ass would call that if not "change", but I'm sure you'll come up with something equally as pathetic as your OP.

6. Buddy, if we have real HCR, then I'll eat your hat.
I'll be happy to eat your hat. I'll write an op about how delicious your hat is, I promise. Then I'll climb on my roof and sing of your wisdom. I really will. After that, I'll write a personal apology to every Democratic member of Congress and tell them how sorry I was for ever doubting. Of course, the topper, a one pound box of candy for the President and the whole first family. Tell me, should I buy the candy now, or wait until everyone has health care?

By the way, you know I'm not talking about your boyfriend here. Don't you?

12. Shake on it.
Easiest bet I've ever made.

And take your "boyfriend" comment and shove it up your ass, I'm talking about Democrats whom for the first time in my life ARE actually changing the status quo. It's not my fault that you refuse to see it.

Sounds like you might need to start another thread about it.

7. If you haven't seen the change, you are myopic
Look at the issues voted on in 2005 and 2006 when we controlled nothing. I remember watching Senator Kennedy making brilliant, powerful speeches for several amendments to mitigate the damage that the bankruptcy bill, that was going to pass, was going to do. One after another each was defeated. Roberts and Alito were confirmed and shifted the Supreme Court to the right. Bush changed by executive order many environmental rules - and not for the good. In addition, the EPA did not enforce the laws as written. Even Social Security was under attack, but there we managed to stop it.

I hesitate to use sports analogies as I have a poor grasp of most sports, but one way to think of it is we are playing on the other half of the field or court. We have passed the SCHIP renewal, Lily ledbetter, and a stimulus bill that funds many things such as high speed rail.

You seem to be comparing actual programs versus promises of programs - and it is much easier to promise than do. There is a very real possibility that in his first year, Obama will have stabilized an economy spiralling downward when he came in, and passed landmark healthcare and climate change legislation. EITHER would have been a legacy.

9. Cool. Like I said before I'll take almost all of it back when I see health care for all.
I'll say I'm sorry for doubting when 45,000 stop dying every year just because they don't have insurance.

23. What does that have to do with anything?
I'm not just talking about our President, I'm talking about almost all of them.

This isn't about the primaries, this is about government and it not doing its job.

15. I don't think the DNC took my order correctly......
Ya see, when they took my order I was supposed to get an appetizer of Blackened Nafta, followed by some delicious peace soup. After that a nice civil salad (heavy on the gay and union rights dressing please). The main course was supposed to be fillet of single payer with a baked potato and cream of jobs.

Its 9 months later, they've only brought me french fries I didn't even order, and it looks like they already debited my card for the whole meal. If single payer is out of season just substitute the public option but lets get this meal started. They also need to stop making my favorite waiters resign. You can always tell when a place is going downhill when they force the best help out the door. :)

17. LBJ had 69 Democratic senators when he "pushed" legislation through
And he didn't have to deal with procedural filibusters and cloture votes. He needed that and 5 years from when Kennedy introduced Medicare to get it passed. Obama looks like a leadership god in comparison. He has 13% fewer senators, more hurdles and has accomplished all this in only 9 months.

22. Let me know when we get a real majority. Nelson, Lieberman, and Lincoln don't count.
Luckily, the Republicans are doing an even worse job of keeping their caucus together than the Democrats are. Some caucus switching is going to happen before health care reform is finished, it just depends on which direction, with the main culprits being Lieberman, Lincoln, and Snowe.
