BREAKING: CBO Releases Numbers On House Health Care Bill : Reduce Deficit by $104 Billion

The Congressional Budget Office has just released its score of the House health care reform bill, which was unveiled this morning.

The bill will reduce the deficit by $104 billion over the first 10 years, according to the CBO. It will also cost $894 billion. (President Obama has said he won't sign a bill that costs more than $900 billion.)

8. CBO seems to have been scoring HR 676 since September it seems.
Hopefully they'll get around to it now that the Senate and House bills are both closer to final versions.

4. Has anybody even asked him why he keeps citing the cost
and impact on the deficit for his reason to filibuster, but every study indicates a strong public option reduces the deficit?

11. When Ned Lamont challenged him a few years back
The local left-of-center radio host here in CT, Colin McEnroe, was interviewing Lieberman on the air and had asked him about Lamont (who had just announced and was polling way behind Lieberman at the time...) Lieberman did the typical dismissal of a new guy on the block, but McEnroe said that he'll have to check Lamont out to see what he's about, and Lieberman had a hissy fit on the air and was downright indignant. McEnroe didn't say he was going to vote for Lamont (though, I'm sure he ended up voting Lamont), just that he was going to check him out because he was the new guy on the scene. Lieberman has not been on with McEnroe since, as far as I know.

Joe essentially lied to all the voters of CT over the years on pretty much everything. I voted for Lamont in 2006.

25. Read the CBO estimate yourself.
What does it matter whether 12 million americans are 1%, 4% or 20%. It's still 12 million people uninsured.

And with no cost controls that number will increase every year.

Much like the useless wars we are fighting, unless the coffins of the dead 44,000 uninsured are lined up and photographed for all to see, they are just statistics, numbers and percentages.

I read the CBO report, and they only state that 18 million (of which 1/3 are illegal immigrants) would remain uninsured.

I want to know why and how, and you don't seem to know. My understanding is that this is how many will still not purchase health insurance, regardless of the subsidies available to assist them in doing so.

Do you have a different explaination, and if so, what is it? :shrug:

32. The report doesn't specify, but I'm sure a lot of it is people who
choose to pay the penalty rather than pay for insurance. Most of those you're worried would be covered by the expansion of Medicaid:

"Starting in 2013, nonelderly people with income below 150 percent of the FPL would generally be made eligible for Medicaid; the federal government would pay a share of the costs of covering newly eligible enrollees that averaged about 91 percent. (Under current rules, the federal government usually pays about 57 percent, on average, of the costs of Medicaid benefits.)"
