Edwards targets middle class Vice presidential nominee John Edwards told supporters he and Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry will bring working and middle-class Americans out of despair Thursday at Portsmouth’s Roy Rogers Esplanade.
Greeted by about 4,500 supporters in one of Ohio’s key regions, Edwards reiterated one of the ticket’s themes that President Bush has hurt Ohioans with economic policy that outsources American jobs.

More than 230,000 jobs have been lost throughout Ohio since President Bush took office, according to the Kerry campaign, and it constantly reminds laborers and manufacturing workers, including the unions throughout Scioto County, of that statistic.
“A job is about more than just a paycheck, isn’t it? It’s about dignity and self respect,” Edwards said during his 20-minute speech. “We need a president in the United States that will fight for your job as hard as he does for his own.”
