Struggling Ohioans appear to like Edwards' message
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- The student who barely scraped together his tuition, the wife who had to drop her husband from her health insurance and the social worker making half the wages she did two years ago were ready for John Edwards to repeat his sound bite from the Democratic convention.

"Hope is on the way!" the vice presidential nominee had thousands chanting on a blocked-off street Wednesday outside the Ohio University student union. He said that John Kerry, if elected president, would shift tax breaks to reward keeping jobs, reduce dependence on foreign oil and bring a college education within reach for more.

Sometimes breaking through the roar, a crowd of sign-waving supporters of President Bush circled the barricades, chanting "Four more years!"

Edwards paused in a criticism of Vice President Dick Cheney to ask, "What do you think? Four more years of tax cuts for multimillionaires?"

Edwards kept going with a preacher's rhythm, asking if the crowd wanted four more years of putting corporate interests before those of working Americans

1. I Always Thought...
when people questioned Kerry picking Edwards by saying Edwards wouldn't carry his own state that it wasn't necessarily about winning NC, it was about winning Ohio.

4. What an interesting thought
very insightful

I think Edwards is a great choice for many reasons, but that's a good one.

7. I myself fdeeply questioned the selection of Edwards over Gephardt
(I still trhink Gephardt would have come out fighting and attacking much earlier than this) bit Edwards is convincing a great deal of Ohio voters that Kerry is not vague and has a very good plans for the economy, health care, terrorism and Iraq.

2. Great article!
Thanks for linking that. Edwards is awesome! I can't wait until he's Vice-President and we actually get to see him. I am so tired of the SCLM deciding which of the candidates I can see. And it's rarely Edwards. **sigh**

5. I guess the Marion Star isn't owned by a conglomerate.
Or maybe the reporter isn't expecting to get his or her own TV or radio show someday and he or she just prefers to report the news.

10. I've said it before and will say it again...
If Kerry & Edwards can motivate the Appalachian SE Ohio vote, that will make the difference in November with regard to the Buckeye State. I'll have to check tomorrrow's Portsmouth (Oh) Daily Times to read how Edwards' appearance there fared, but those poor folks were hit by a deluge and flooding today!
