Buy a copy of Fahrenheit 9-11 for your library!
I had a conversation with our librarian, and asked if I could buy a copy of F-9/11 for the library. Her eyes lit up, and she said "SURE!" We're in a small town (3500), and the library is part of an inter-library loan. She thought they could get the movie for anyone who wanted it. I told her Michael Moore wanted as many people to see it as possible before the election, and I wanted to help buy purchasing a copy for our library.

I just went to Amazon and ordered a 2nd copy for the library.
PASS THIS IDEA AROUND, and do the same!

Most libraries have extremely limited funds. I see purchasing this as a community service! :)

I've given my neighborhood library a copy of "Outfoxed" and have ordered a copy of "Fortunate Son" for them, too. I've also planned on giving them a copy of Fahrenheit 911. Thanks for the reminder.

12. Suggestion from a large city, Collection Development Library
Assistant:

Larger libraries have probably already ordered it. Try to purchase it for smaller towns and suburbs, they are the ones most likely to have limited A/V funds.

Feel free to ask if they've ordered.

Libraries everywhere thank you; this film will be legendary.

13. Even larger libraries might like a second copy.
I suspect the demand will be very high.

Thanks to all for your positive responses!
Keep this idea kicked so everyone can see it!

I talked to librarians at my branch. Multiple copies of high-demand movies are welcomed. Sometimes they have to rotate DVDs out for repair due to such high use, and it's nice to have replacements. (Our local system had 8 copies of "Bowling for Columbine" last year and only 6 working ones now, it's been so popular.) Plus, it allows them to stock the bookmobiles. So -- I'm getting an extra copy of F 9/11 for the branch across town that services the area around the military base.

I estimate that I've given them approximately 170 DVDs in the past couple of years, ranging from documentaries to foreign films to kids' movies, and they've all been accepted, even if there were already copies in the collection. They've become so used to me showing up with stuff, they accepted "Birth of a Nation", "Titus Andronicus", and "Roger and Me" (all controversial films) without even blinking. People who are concerned about having their donations refused on political grounds -- consider making a batch donation ("Pirates of the Caribbean", "The Shawshank Redemption", "Lord of the Rings", etc.) -- these are popular, award-winning films which will be a hit with the library patrons, and also boost performers who oppose Bush.

15. My Library System
Is in a very conservative county. They do not order liberal material. However they have a rule that for each two reserves that a member of the public puts on for materials that have not yet been purchased, they have to buy one copy of it. THough most of the librarians are fundamentalist christians, and the library board gets furious, what I do is get a bunch of my friends to put reserves in for all liberal books and dvd's that come out, and then if the stuff does not arrive, we all write letters to the library director and the mayor, so they end up having to buy the stuff even though they dont want to do so.

It is fun

19. Half of America will be buying this DVD
But for those who want to see it and surely most video stores will be rented out until election time, this is a good idea. Unfortunately, I can see some neocon going to the library (okay, it seems like a stretch, but bear with me) and checking it and holding onto it out so no one can see it.

20. I'm disappointed that it isn't being released in VHS
well, AFFORDABLE VHS. The VHS format from Amazon is $55.

I'd guess that most people have VCR's. But many do not have DVD. My parents, and many elderly, do not. I will make a copy for them to watch, and share with friends.

Lots of people on fixed incomes rely on their libraries rather than video stores. So even if your library gets their own copy of F-9/11, they probably would appreciate another copy!

24. just imagine the fines they'll have to pay!
If they hold onto the item for too long, or damage it, the library has ways of dealing with that. They might not even be able to place holds on the DVD, since most libraries don't allow that for high-demand titles. And even librarians who may be pro-Bush do NOT like people messing with their collections or obstructing other patrons.

22. Don't forget academic libraries
College libraries are on tighter budgets than ever, and DVDs are expensive. An extra bonus is that donations of materials to libraries are tax-deductible and you don't have to itemize.
