to all armchair kerry campaign managers (myself included):
let kerry be kerry.
as much fun as it is to pretend, you are NOT, in fact, kerry's campaign manager. you don't direct policy or strategy, and you don't select the message of the day. you might indeed to a better job, but at the end of the day, that is not, in fact, your job.
what you ARE is a kerry surrogate. you are part of the vast group of kerry supporters and promoters, who help spread the word, encourage others, solicit donations, get out the vote, inform about kerry's talents and highlight the other guy's failures. you go out in the world, in the media, in your classroom, in your workplace, and in these very forums and you represent kerry as best you can. all with the goal of making kerry president and sending that miserable failure kerry's running against packing.
when you forget your role in this campaign, you do a lousy job because the two roles are not compatible. as campaign manager, you discuss ways to improve the candidates strategy and message. but when a surrogate or supporter does the same thing, it comes across as disappointment and a lack or faith or full support in the candidate.
in these final weeks of the campaign, please remember to do your job as a supporter and SUPPORT john kerry, the next president of the united state! do not second guess his strategy, save it for after the election. in the meanwhile, trust that kerry has won many elections and has very good people working for him.
and he has an army of supporters who are behind him 100%!!
