"Bush Twists Kerry's Word on Iraq" -- from AP! Can you believe it?!
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=1&u=/ap/20040925/ap_on_el_pr/bush

_He stated flatly that Kerry had said earlier in the week "he would prefer the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein to the situation in Iraq today." The line drew gasps of surprise from Bush's audience in a Racine, Wis., park. "I just strongly disagree," the president said.

But Kerry never said that. In a speech at New York University on Monday, he called Saddam "a brutal dictator who deserves his own special place in hell." He added, "The satisfaction we take in his downfall does not hide this fact: We have traded a dictator for a chaos that has left America less secure."

It does say Kerry has twisted Chimp's meaning by saying he doesn't have a plan for Iraq. Supposedly, he has a plan, it's just that the plan isn't working. :eyes:

Nevertheless, I was amazed to see the twists from Bush pointed out.

2. that bit on kerry's twisting is great
If that's the best they can come up with after all that blatant lying from Bush, I think we can say we're running a pretty clean campaign.

3. This is fodder for the debate threads
Several of Chimp's favorite lines are here and they need to be responded to, imo.

Some are left out, though -- "There's nothing complicated about funding our troops in combat" and "Faced with the choice of trusting a madman or defending America, I'll choose to defend America every time" and "First my opponent was for the war, then he was against it, then he was for it again, now he's against it again."

If this simian idiot wins the election by LYING, dividing, smearing, misleading, infuriating, and shocking with phony misquotes, I don't think I'd be able to stand it. I don't think the country could stand it.

13. if Americans fall for Bush one more time, do we all deserve it?
I am a senior citizen, with my days numbered. I shouldn't even care some say, but I am thinking about the generations that follow me. My hope is that possibly our saner minds in the military (like the dozen who stood with Kerry in Boston and Schwarzkopf who no longer supports Bush) will prevent a fascist takeover of the USA. If not, I fear that the whole world will rise up to defeat the fascists here just as most of the world ganged up to defeat fascism in Europe. But I don't wish to see our landscape, our cities look like Dresden or Hiroshima. 9/11 was nothing compared to the destruction which might visit us when 6 billion other folks decide they have had enough of American arrogance and hegemony.

I was born in FDR's second term, and I have never before held so much fear for my nation....not during WWII as a kid with my dad away in the army, during the McCarthy witch hunts, assassinations, race riots, Kent State and Vietnam, a paranoid Nixon and Watergate, the Reagan and Bush 41 mini-wars, Clinton cigars, as I have now being lorded over by the most moronic president of my lifetime. I don't entirely blame Bush or Laura Stepford as I believe them to only be pathetic stooges scripted by a shadow government of neocons who are extremely dangerous and truly evil. Evil enough to have even caused 9/11 so that they could have the "Pearl Harbor" they wished for in their PNAC plan to get Americans in control by fear.

4. Rated. Still Looks Freeped, Though
as Skinner observed in the LBN thread, AP will probably cave due to WH pressure and give the story a more innocuous headline. We need to keep an eye on the article to see if that happens.

5. Like, "Bush Finds Winning Points Against Kerry on Campaign Trail?"
True, I'm surprised they've got the headline up long enough for it to get this many 'rating' votes.

14. Bush has a real comprehension problem.
Maybe he's not twisting Kerry's words. Maybe he's just in over his head on this stuff, and doesn't really understand what's being discussed.

At any rate, it's clear he doesn't have the skills to lead us forward out of this mess he's created.

;)
