One Liner Comebacks for Rethugs and Undecided

I am registering hundreds of voters.
Thrilled to report that 88% are new Democrats!

A few Rethugs come up to us and want to engage in long discussions about Bush. Generally it is stuff like, "Bush was chosen by God, I like Wars, Bush is Strong."

I am always polite but I really need some Comebacks that are polite and yet get them to think.

I know that I should just forget about it but I am generally great at changing minds. The Bush kool aid is unreal. They are truly robots.

I am especially concerned about the Undecided. Yesterday I had a nineteen year old, great kid. He said he just didn't know who he was going to vote for -- I won him over to our side!!!!

1. "I'm a cynic. I don't trust politicians. I want facts."
I use this all the time to explain why I don't take spin at face value. "Don't give me opinions, hearsay or spin. Give me evidence. I want the facts. Keep the rest and I'll make my own decisions, thank you."

That tends to shut up most republicans.

3. "I believe you're looking for the Armed Forces Recruiting Office,
which is located, (have info on hand to nearest offices), and in case you can't make it there today, here is an enlistment form with "Send me straight to Fallujah" already checked for you! (hand enlistment form). Thanks and have a nice day!"

4. If he's so strong why didn't he jump up out of the "goat" chair
to begin defending America? Also, his inaction showed he is dumb because he couldn't connect the dots back to the PDBs which warned OBL was planning an attack.
Anyone with equal info. would have immediately know.

I'll copy the thread and pass it out to all those that work with us.

Registering new voters is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done for my country.

I read a good idea here on DU...

On the last day before all the registrations must be turned in in your state --- register voters in critical spots from 7AM until you must stop. If you can do it with a group of friends its lots of fun.Take it in shifts and get creative in your set up!

Bottle of Water for each new voter

Candy basket for your table, that really works!

If you have any other ideas let us know.

8. Being the snot that I can be
If I know the person I usually reply---Oh my--I though you were smarter than that. Sorry my mistake.

If I don't know the person I sometimes ask if they need a referral to a mental health professional or a deprogramer.

9. This may work with some people...
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 01:54 PM by Jade Fox
of the more intellectual variety:

I've been reading "Bush on the Couch". The author (a respected psychiatrist)
says that Bush has a definite need for war, and an Enemy to fight, so he
will keep us in war as long as possible. When he said the war on terror
could not be won, he was revealing his own plans, however inadvertantly.
Some people may respond to hearing this.

Others:

If Bush is such a good Christian, why doesn't he go to church?

If Bush is such a moral man, why did he reply, when asked by a reporter
what he and his father talked about in private, "Pussy"?

13. That is a good line

for those that are poor too.

You can always say,"they are the party that caters to the rich you know."
