National Elections Pool "takes the place" of Voters News Service for 2004?
US networks seek to banish ghosts of 2000 election

NEW YORK (AFP) - When American voters finally get their say on the most divisive presidential race in decades on November 2, US television networks will finally have their shot at redemption.

"That characterisation carried through the post-election challenge," said a report commissioned by CNN. "Gore was perceived as the challenger and labelled a 'sore loser' for trying to steal the election."

VNS was disbanded in January 2003 and the same consortium set up a new organisation, the National Elections Pool (NEP), which will be the primary poll data provider for the 2004 presidential election.

The NEP uses essentially the same, though refined, methods as its predecessor, leaving experts warning that the real onus for avoiding a repetition of 2000 in November is on the networks.

Mitofsky International

Mitofsky International is a survey research company founded by Warren J. Mitofsky in 1993. Its primary business is conducting exit polls for major elections around the world. It does this work exclusively for news organizations. Mitofsky has directed exit polls and quick counts since 1967 for almost 3,000 electoral contests. He has the distinction of conducting the first national presidential exit polls in the United States, Russia, Mexico and the Philippines.

His record for accuracy is well known. "This caution in projecting winners is a Mitofsky trademark, one which has served him well," said David W. Moore, the managing editor of the Gallup Poll in his book, The Super Pollsters.

Mitofsky International election research clients in the United States have included all the major television Networks, major newspapers such as NY Times, Washington Post and WSJ. Mitofsky also has a diverse roster of international Broadcast clients. Along with CESSI, Ltd., his was the sole exit poll for the Russian presidential elections in 1996 and 2000 as well as all other Russian elections since 1993. His was the only exit poll and quick count reported by the Mexican broadcast industry for its 1994 presidential Election. Since then he and Consulta S.A., have done all national and state exit polls for Televisa, Mexico's largest broadcaster.

5. Exit Poll data to be accessed over the internet ..... how it works
Exit Poll System Description

Superior Reporting With Our Data

Exit polls / voter surveys are taken only minutes after citizens vote. The results are primary sources from which we can understand the motivations and patterns behind the actual vote.

Exit Polls Tell Us:

WHO voted for each candidate
WHY voters in your area made critical choices
WHERE geographical differences on candidates and issues were a factor.
It is our goal to make accurate data available to our subscribers with speed and clarity for the General Election in November.

The exit poll data is available for purchase by TV-affiliates, newspapers, internet sites and other news outlets. The polling data is delivered through a secure web application directly to subscribers on election day. Political candidates may subscribe as well, but the data is available one week past voting day.

6. Are they Running the Latest Patched Diebold Software?
Wouldn't want to have to come on and stammer about "bad data" after
they fix the results, like they did in 2000 AND 2002.
Better to download the fixed results directly from Diebold and
have your "predictions" be spot-on!
