A soldier in Afganistan...
sent this e-mail today. Although I don't agree with his 'best choice' sentence, he has earned the right to express anything he wants to, imo, because of where he is. And, hopefully, more servicemen and women will see the election process this clearly. But it saddens me that a soldier in a dangerous place feels scared because this administration has let him, and others, down. And BTW, I will assure him that one vote certainly does count. This is one paragraph he wrote:

"As far as the elections go, normally I vote repulican. In this case, I have several factors that have persuaded me to vote in the other direction. First of all, many of the world leaders will not even deal with Bush so we are screwed as far as world cooperation if he stays in. Second, Iraq, while oppressed, was not a haven for terrorist when Saddam was in power. He ruled that country with an iron fist. Now that he isnt there, terrorist have, in my opinion, have a place to roost. While Kerry isnt the best choice, I will vote for him because he can at least possibly get the rest of the world on our side again. We cant do this alone I dont think. I see how our military is stretched so thin now and it scares me. If someone, like China, for example, invaded the US. There would be noone there to stop them. This, of course, is my opinion. One vote doesnt matter much but I am going Democrat"

1. Send this to the Kerry camp, this soldier is speaking for all of them.
This needs to get out. I guess you should ask first but doesn't mail take a long time.

4. I do too. I saw a piece on MTV and they all seemed so (I don't know the
perfect word). I was moved like I was during Nam. Scared for them I think the Kerry campaign could use this but not all the soldiers would feel comfortable having their words used like that.

5. True..
I still have the MIA bracelet I wore during the '70's. Hope to go to the Wall someday with it. I never thought I would see the day that I would be so reminded of Viet Nam.

6. I remember when Kerry talked in 71. How did you take that?

7. At that point..
I was so against the war. It is so hard for me to understand the negative press now, because the activists, John Kerry included, helped end a very unpopular war. At the end, the country wanted out of Viet Nam. Why is that not pointed out more? Just wondering out loud.

8. Yes I thought everyone understood it was wrong. I have heard that said
over the years. Now all of a sudden people like John O'Neill crawl out of the woodwork. I had heard some of these SBV say they thought they could have won Nam but Kerry caused the war to end and they never had a chance. What a bunch of lies. The soldiers where in trouble as soon a they hit the ground. I hated that war. I was young but not so young that I didn't fully understand.

9. he is a Republican so it's somewhat understandable
since he disagrees with Kerry on all the other issues. but he is smart enough to see the mess and he took the time to at least look at Kerry and sees him as doing better in that area. and it's an important issue enough to vote for Kerry even though he is a Republican. good thing to send to any republican or conservative leaning types that are worried about the foreign policy mess but view Kerry as too liberal.
