Winning any debate this year is simple: ADDRESS THE DOUBLE STANDARD.
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 01:33 AM by Paragon
This goes for Kerry, Edwards, the politicians and pundits on the talk shows -- right down to your conversation with an undecided voter or even a freeper neighbor:

If a Democratic President (who also controls the House and Senate) dodged the draft, tried to bury the "youthful indiscretions" of his past, made backroom deals with moneyed interests, squandered the surplus and sent us into the worst deficit ever, presided over the worst net job loss in history, completely ignored a threat resulting in the worst attack in the nation's history, sent us to war under false pretenses, creating a foreign policy debacle that will reverberate for decades...

...wouldn't they hold them responsible? You bet your ass they would.

In fact, I believe the Republicans would call him a draft-dodging, special-interest-lovin' free-spender who had no morals and was soft on defense.

As someone much smarter than I am used to say, hypocrisy is the greatest luxury -- raise the double standard.

1. Very well put, Paragon. Kerry needs to say just that.
You should send it to the Campaign, it couldn't hurt.

I have my table tomorrow and I think I'm going to say something just like that. Thanks for putting it so eloquently.

:D

I also find voting for Bush on the basis of "honesty, personal integrity and manners" to be unintentionally hilarious. Thanks for the backup, M.

14. W IS a 'draft dodger' as is Cheney as is Ashcroft
In the 60s, rich and politically connected young men joined the National Guard to 'dodge the draft' and ending up in Vietnam.

W is especially horrific, because even tho he avoided Vietnam, he failed to show up for his minimal obligations for at least a year.

Clinton 'dodged the draft' by getting deferments; Cheney got 5 because he had 'other priorities'. Ashcroft's created a teaching job for him so he could 'dodge the draft.'

It helps to know a few facts rather than only repeating RW points.

7. I would hope...
that if a democrat pulled the things Bush has, we'd be right there with the freepers calling for impeachment.

17. Over all ignorance...
I've asked 'Rebublicans' what they would have done if The Clinton Administration outed a CIA operative, used 'faulty intelligence' to go to war, abrogated several major treaties, exposed an Al-Qaeda mole letting many terrorists escape, and plunged the country into record debt.

They pretend the question was never asked, they change the subject, they ignore it. The pure form of ignorance - 'to ignore'.

It's sad really.
