Veterans for Kerry Barred From Bush Rally

Tue Sep 28,11:41 PM ET Politics - AP

By BRAD CAIN, Associated Press Writer

SALEM, Ore. - About 30 Oregon veterans who support Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites) for president were rebuffed Tuesday when they showed up at a Republican rally in hopes of delivering a letter to first lady Laura Bush criticizing the war in Iraq (news - web sites).

Bush spoke to about 3,500 of her husband's supporters at Chemeketa Community College here and, as with other Bush-Cheney events in the state, admission was by ticket only and was limited to supporters of the administration.

Before the rally, the group of pro-Kerry veterans asked Secret Service agents at the site to deliver a letter to Bush, but were told they would have to mail the letter to the White House.

Terry Kirsch, a Vietnam veteran from Canby, Ore., said he later tried to use a ticket to get into the event, but was told the fire marshal had closed the site.

1. Excuse: about safety, not politics
That's what the local Repuke said, later on in the article. By safety does he mean that the Bush family are scared of facing the American people, especially wounded veterans?????

3. Smirk is a well know coward.
That's why you have to give your first born male child up to the military just to get in to see him.

I fail to see how Rove thinks that ONLY allowing people that already support Smirk is going to help him, other than fire up his base.He must have been in real trouble with his base to follow this stradigery.

2. What did they do to deserve seeing the President?
They have to realize that the President is a very busy man and that he can't just talk to everyone. There were some important people at the rally, no doubt, and he had to spend time with them.

So what if the veterans served their country and put their lives on the line?

Honestly, just because a person is selfless and patriotic, does that give him the right to see the President?

(Yes, this is sarcasm. I'm a disabled veteran.)

5. I love the fact that this is getting publicity,
all negative. I don't imagine those vets will be voting for the schrub anytime soon and might fire up other vets who are undecided.
