BUTTONS!! A Plea for BUTTONS!!!!!!!!!! I'm begging!
Just spoke to my Mom, who lives in Bayside, Queens, an area that votes Republican as often as not.

A woman in the supermarket stopped to talk to her. Why? SHE SAW HER KERRY/EDWARDS BUTTON! "Do you think he has a chance?" she asked. My Mom told her the story of Truman and Dewey, which this girl was too young to have known.

That woman told my Mom how isolated she felt, because she didn't see any Kerry buttons in her area. NOBODY SEES ANY KERRY BUTTONS BECAUSE NOBODY IS SELLING KERRY BUTTONS.

My Mom took hers off my shirt when I came to visit.

Internet fundraising is dandy. Maybe you can't raise as much sitting at a card table selling buttons........BUT NOTHING IS AS IMPORTANT AS THAT COMFY FEEL OF GROUP IDENTIFICATION.

And card tables are a great place to hand out position papers. Too many people don't know what the candidates are for or against. Too many don't bother to download the info from the internet.

My neighbor, who is FOR Kerry, thoughtfully put some position papers on Bush and Kerry on the wall of our building's vestibule. Only thing is, poor innocent, they were downloads from MSNBC which is pretending that there is some six of one, half a dozen of the other about these men.

KERRY position papers need to be on the streets available for reading when people BUY THEIR BUTTONS.

I cannot understand why this is being neglected. It's a huge part of the reason people are being fooled into thinking Bush is ahead.

Big buttons. Little buttons. Buttons on suits and jackets and coats and sweaters and blouses and dresses. Buttons that can be worn for any occasion and special occasions (I like a tiny button positioned in cleavage for formal events).

BUTTONS!!!!!!!!!! WHERE ARE THE BUTTONS?????????????????????????

15. I told my Mom about the online buttons. She said, "How stupid."
She won't be ordering buttons online.

Too annoying. Too impersonal.

The opportunity to connect and impress has been lost.

6. For all of Manhattan? That's insane. What about Queens? Brooklyn? Bronx?
Also, the ones at Union Square seem to be private enterprise, having nothing to do with the campaign. That's just plain wrong. I want to be able to pass and pick up a position paper with the button.

19. A. I have no money. B. I buy buttons when I see them.
But I can't buy more than one or two at a time, unlike you incomed people who seem amazingly cavalier about such expenses.

14. Everytime I wear my buttons...
People ask me where I got them. I just give them the ones I have on. All I ask is that they wear them. I buy all I can and pass them out. You should, too. It's fun. You'd be amazed how many people are eager to be visible about their support of Kerry.

(The in-demand button around here, however, is the Bush/Satan 2004. I haven't found any of those yet.)

As for position papers, Kerry has a PDF on his website. I'd rather get it from the horse's mouth than the media whores.

17. A PDF on his website?????
Edited on Wed Sep-29-04 06:33 PM by aquart
How about one human being putting it into the hand of another. And smiling.

How about trying that?

Saying a "PDF on his website" is the same as telling someone like my Mom that you don't give a damn how she votes or thinks. Does the campaign get how offhand that sounds??

21. Let me spell it out for you:
You download the PDF and print selected portions. Then YOU smile and hand it to people. Do I need to hold your hand and guide you through the process? It's not that difficult. Some assembly required.

I just received a batch of them today; I'm giving them all away -- gonna carry them in my pocket, and when someone asks, they get one! Hooyah!

Big, nice 2.25" size. Tell your ma, or order them for her!
