1. Yes..................
I think Poland contributed 100 cases of bottled water and 500 troops that were directed not to get into any combat situations.
How could Kerry possibly forget Poland? :eyes:

Polish push for peace over Iraq

<snip> Poland has cemented its relations with Washington after sending about 200 elite troops on a secret mission in Iraq.

Relations were strengthened yet further last month when Poland signed a $3.5 billion contract for 48 U.S. F-16 jet fighters from Lockheed Martin -- snubbing a French rival. <snip>

Why Poland loves America
By Nick Thorpe
BBC, Warsaw

<snip> Daniel Passent, a veteran writer on foreign affairs at the weekly Polityka, says that the Polish decision to get involved in Iraq should be understood above all in the context of Poland's history - her own need, so close to Russia, for powerful friends.

"I think Poland is going to Iraq because it wants to prove to the United States that we are a reliable ally.

"That the United States can count on us, and when - hopefully never - a day will come when Poland will need to count on her allies, we will then be able to count on the United States," he says. <snip>

Foreign Ministry comments on ambassador’s letter to U.S.A

Warsaw, July 21 (2003): The Polish ambassador in Washington availed himself of a „good moment” to remind Poland’s U.S. partners about Polish priorities, Foreign Ministry spokesman Boguslaw Majewski said referring to a press report on a letter of Ambassador Slawomir Grudzinski to the U.S. Congress. The Gazeta Wyborcza daily last Saturday wrote about a confidential document sent by the Polish ambassador to the U.S. Department of State and the Congress asking for abolishment of the visa duty for Poles, a four fold increase of the number of the Fulbright Foundation grants for Polish researchers, and a U.S.’s financial aid for Poland for the exploitation of six C 130 transport aircraft which the Pentagon wants to give Poland free, but demands funds for modernisation, repairs and training of pilots. At the same time the ambassador assured that Poland will continue to support U.S.A.’s actions aimed to eliminate the threat of terrorism and use of mass destruction weapon. <snip>

Poland seeks Iraq reward
By Jan Repa
BBC Europe analyst

Poland's President Aleksander Kwasniewski is expected to ask US President George W Bush to reward his country's support for the war effort in Iraq when he meets him in Washington on Tuesday.
Mr Kwasniewski will also hold talks with Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and National Security Adviser Condoleeza Rice.

Poland has given strong backing to American policy in Iraq, at the cost of antagonising important European countries like France and Germany.

It says it has so far gained few benefits from Washington. <snip>

Bush Defends Iraq War as He Meets with Poland's President

President Bush, in remarks to reporters January 27 as he sat down for talks in the Oval Office with Poland's President's Kwasniewski, said he feels certain that the removal of Saddam Hussein from power was the right thing to do. <snip>

Bush said he was looking forward to talking with Kwasniewski about ways to help assist the Polish military effort in Iraq.

"In my '05 budget request there is a $66 million request to help the Polish military, particularly with airlift capacity, C-130 aircraft. The Polish army is a sophisticated, fine group of soldiers. And one area where Poland needs some help is capacity to move those soldiers, and we look forward to helping the government do that," Bush said. <snip>

Poland 'misled' on Iraq, President says
(Agencies)Updated: 2004-03-19 09:47

Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, a key US ally, said Thursday that Poland was "misled" about whether Saddam Hussein's regime had weapons of mass destruction and was considering withdrawing troops from Iraq several months early. <snip>

Poland planning pull-out of troops from Iraq
Derek Scally, in Warsaw

Poland is planning to withdraw its troops from Iraq in the coming months, dealing another blow to the US-led coalition forces there.

The revelation yesterday by a senior government adviser that Poland's 2,500 soldiers would leave Iraq comes just a day after the new Spanish Prime Minister, Mr José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, announced the pull-out of Spanish troops "as soon as possible". <snip>

U.S. Works to Sustain Iraq Coalition
4 Nations Have Left, 4 More Are Getting Ready to Leave International Force

<snip> Norway quietly pulled out its 155 military engineers this month, leaving behind only about 15 personnel to assist a new NATO-coordinated effort to help train and equip Iraqi security forces. New Zealand intends to pull out its 60 engineers by September, while Thailand plans to withdraw its more than 450 troops that same month, barring a last-minute political reversal that Thai officials consider unlikely, say envoys from both countries. "It's 90 percent definite that we're going," a Thai diplomat said.

The Netherlands is likely to pull out next spring after the first of three Iraqi elections, while Polish military officials told the Pentagon that Poland's large contingent will probably leave in mid-2005, other diplomats say. <snip>

Several participating countries sent fewer than 100 troops. In other cases, forces diminished significantly over time. Moldova's contingent is the smallest -- down to 12 from 42. Singapore has quietly reduced its presence from 191 to 33. <snip>

Support is also tenuous in nations Washington considers to be key players. The vote this week in Italy's House of Deputies to extend its deployment was 257 to 207, a reflection of the almost even public split, an Italian envoy said. Playing to strong public antiwar sentiment, Australia's opposition pledged to withdraw troops by Christmas if elected, while revelations about the Abu Ghraib prison abuse led Hungary's opposition to call for a withdrawal despite originally supporting the deployment. <snip>

Poland Faces Pressure to Pull Iraq Forces
TERENCE HUNT
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Facing pressure to withdraw his troops, Poland's prime minister told President Bush on Monday that "no one wants to stay in Iraq forever." Polish-led forces turned over control of two provinces to Marines because of the worsening violence in Najaf. <snip>

Bush met in the Oval Office with Prime Minister Marek Belka, who came to Washington to talk with the president and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld about transferring more military duties to Iraqis in the Polish-led zone after withdrawals by Spain and other countries.

Public opinion polls show that Poles overwhelmingly want to bring their troops home. <snip>

Marek Belka starts US visit

Washington, Aug. 10 (2004): Prime Minister Marek Belka met with Lockheed Martin concern president Robert Stevens and vice president Dain to discuss the implementation by the American partner of terms of the offset accord connected with the purchase of the F-16 aircraft. After the meeting Belka went to Pentagon for talks with US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. They discussed above all reorganisation of the participation in the mission in Iraq of the Polish contingent which, according to Belka, will ever closer cooperate and integrate with the Iraqi security force. Asked whether he spoke to Rumsfeld about a reduction of the Polish contingent in Iraq he said there was no mention about it and that it was "a mere technical matter." Pressed to say whether he confirmed at his meeting in Pentagon that Poland would like to pull out part of its troops from Iraq at the beginning of next year, Belka said "nothing in our exchange of views denied the fact." Later in the day Belka met with President George W. Bush in the White House. The talks concerned mainly the participation of the Polish troops in the stabilisation operation in Iraq. The sides discussed also about an increased American aid in the modernisation of the Polish army. The purchase of a Humvee car this year and C-130 transport aircraft next year from American funds were among the subjects. Commenting on the meeting Marek Belka said that the further presence of Polish troops in Iraq would depend on the developments there. "Nobody wants to stay in Iraq forever. We treat our presence there as serving this country. With President Bush we did not discuss dates or troop numbers. We discussed the way how the situation in Iraq develops, how the political process is going on and how it shapes the character and the size of our presence in this country," Belka said. <snip>

Poland To Withdraw Its Troops From More Of Iraq: Defence Minister

WARSAW, Sept 3 (AFP) - Poland will hand over another part of the zone it administers in Iraq under a planned reduction of its forces next year, Defence Minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski said in an interview published Friday. <snip>

"We will leave the province of Karbala. The contingent will remain deployed in the provinces of Babil, Wasit and Al-Qadisiyah," the defence minister said in an interview with the daily Trybuna. <snip>

Last month, Polish troops in Iraq already handed over some of the zone they control to US forces, including the province of Najaf, the scene of fierce fighting with Shiite militiamen. <snip>

"We have decided to hand over Babylon to the Iraqis. The headquarters will probably move to the province of Al-Qadisiyah (south of Baghdad)," he said.
