Today, the media will reveal just how much of a puppet it is.

It doesn't take a partisan to know Kerry not only won last night's debate, he mopped the floor with a seriously flawed opponent. If one remembers the media's concerted effort to turn a Gore victory in the first debate into a loss, one might expect an effort to downplay Kerry's stellar performance. I suspect we'll hear something along the lines of the debate was a draw and there should be little or no movement in the polls. There will be little or nothing about Bush's grimaces, sighs, and general imprecision of language. And then they'll wait to see if their efforts to make us doubt the evidence of our eyes and ears are successful. I hope I'm wrong, but past history (and what little I've seen this morning) suggests I won't be.

1. Our Media whores have been told it was a "draw" - and Bush will do
well in a Town Hall Setting.

Today they are to go to GOP talking points.

So I'd say you hit the nail on the head.

:-)

2. Hopefully the Polls....
...will show a swing Kerry's direction, and show the public saying he won enough, that the myth of this one is that it was a draw is gone...

I don't get that. I saw multiple mediacks say it was a draw, which they said was good for Kerry because he looked presidential, but every poll I"ve seen so far (and I'm not talking about the online ones, but like the 200 person instapoll CBS did and things like that) show that Kerry by far won the debate.

5. The Press Is Trying To Be Impartial
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 07:40 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
But if you call a win a draw you are not being being impartial. You are being partial to the guy who lost...

If the press wants to make political hay there are many opportunities to make hay out of Bush's monkey face....

today also shows that some DUers need at least a temporary vacation either from irrational handwringing and doubts or trying to create the same for the usual suspicious reasons.

Sure some crazies cannot fathom Bush's destruction last night and some are still looking for some other kind of campaign and debate, but reality needs to laugh down the Emperor with no clothes who is killing America.

The only fear I want to see here is the real fear all Americans should have that such a man is, has been, and will be for some bloody months to come, our Commander in Chief. Ugh. Otherwise America is still rubbing its groggy eyes with the media "Do Not Disturb" sign still hanging on the locked door.

You can have reasonable faith in Kerry and still be in awe when he does what he does so well. He IS the right man and is making blatant fools out of prejudiced doubters.

7. Kerry clearly won the debate. But I share your concern about how
the media will play it.

This time 4 years ago, I knew Gore clearly won the debate. I think a loud enough grass-roots drum beat might have some effect. Letters to the editor, participating in th4e online polls might help to keep the media focused on what actually happened rather than reading repug talking points.

8. Watching some of the morning shows...

Almost all of the media commentators are saying it was such a good debate, both men did well, pretty much a draw, yadda, yadda, yadda. But when they go to a focus group of ordinary people, Kerry is winning hands down. One lady on GMA said regarding Bush's repetition of the flip-flop theme, "We're smarter than that."

Yes we are. But when will the media realize it?

edit to add: One of the men in the GMA group who had leaned toward Bush commented on how nervous and unprepared he seemed. Thank you to him for saying what the media is unwilling to say. The emperor has no clothes!

9. Good point, especially on edit. Maybe this time the dike is too porous
and the media lacks sufficient fingers. If we could win the election AND have a majority of the population understand the media is neither liberal nor their friend, Kerry/Edwards might actually be able to do what needs to be done (despite the media's efforts to force them right).

10. The spin/damage control so far is this: "Kerry won but ...
hasn't convinced anyone to change their mind." The message is: "If your having second thoughts, don't! Stick with Bush!"

If Bush had even come close to a tie they would be writing Kerry's political obituary today.

11. Anybody would have to work really hard to say Kerry didn't win
hands down.

I don't believe ANYbody who says otherwise is being honest. It's just too obvious.

12. The first caller I heard
on C-Span (who ID'd himself as a Green Party member) stated that he thought Bush practically WHOMPED Kerry in every area of the debate. Which means he either lied about being a Green, or that the Greens are smokin' something good!
:puke:

14. what I find amusing...
Is that yesterday, the media was slobbering over the chimp's supposed debating skills - "He's never lost a debate....he even beat Richards in Texas in the debates..." blah blah blah.

Last night, immediately following his pathetic performance, the new theme was that Bush is NOT good at debates, as though we should judge him through that prism and not be too hard on the poor fellow.

It's so amazing how they can turn on a dime and say something completely opposite of what they were pushing on us just hours earlier. How stupid do they think the American people are?

15. None so blind as those that don't want to see
Local talk radio was full of excuses for the Chimp's poor performance - the most astonishing (which got the most applause from the repuke listeners) was along the lines that "It's just not fair - the President has so many things he has to do instead of campaigning, where Kerry just jaunts around the country campaining". Good God! Just take a gun and shoot me!! Please!!!!!!!!!!

17. Official GOP Spin: "Kerry contradicted himself"
Every RW talk radio show, every pundit, and every sleaze merchant on the right apparently got their papers less than an hour after the debate (or maybe an hour before?).

They're all saying the same thing:

  • Kerry was all over the place
  • Kerry sent mixed messages
  • Kerry kept changing his story

Be prepared for this meme and counter it. Kerry was absolutely unwavering, as he always is. If you don't think so, you either didn't see the debate or you're being dishonest.
