Spells for Democracy: Enchant the Debates, Strip Away the Lies

Uncle Isaac says... On Thursday, September 30th, the first
debate between Bush and Kerry took place. I believe that
our efforts bore fruit and that we should continue them. I
strongly suggest that American Pagans watch every debate
and do their best to influence the speakers to be open and
honest about their goals and methods.

At all the debates, I’ll
be burning a golden apple candle that has "KALLISTI"
carved into it in honor of Eris, the Goddess of Confusion,
next to my statues of Liberty and Freedom. I will have three
magical intents: (1) to make Bush and Cheney forget their
soundbytes and instead accidentally speak the truth, (2) to
make Kerry and Edwards accidentally speak in simple
language, and (3) to make the journalists covering the debate
accidentally report their real reactions. That should stir things
up a bit! (Note, I’ll be invoking the modern playful version
