Cut The Shit All - Edwards Needed A Grand Slam, He Bunted To First At Best
he didn't do it tonight. sorry. FACTS.

i'll call it a DRAW at BEST!

this was NOT John's best performance BY FAR!

the Halliburton references landed on deaf ears and they were NOT effective.

he wasn't HORRIBLE but they weren't anything to write home about. sorry. i REALLY am!

those are the facts. let us not kid ourselves. let us be honest. sorry.

48. IMO, John had to look serious, smart and able. The race will be between
Kerrey and *. All John had to do was dispell the breck crap and be a man. He did that and he showed his humanity, ability and guts. A home run wasn't needed. Just getting around the bases was. He did that IMO and I'm deeply relieved.

Bush is a dork. He CAN'T get better, only same or worse. That will decide this. Cheney needed the home run to stop the slide. He didn't get it. He can't. He's too evil-looking and mean. Nothing to say but the same old crap. So, I believe Edwards did just what he needed to do, allay fears about himself.

I don't think it's bad for us at all.

Dick Cheney was a nasty sumbitch. Fine.

John Edwards came off okay, which is fine. He got a few zingers in.

On Friday Kerry is going to clean Georgie's clock AGAIN.

So there.

on edit:
Edwards is looking better at the end here though.

And JE's image is a lot more attractive than DC's image. I predict that JE will be the winner by a slim margin, and it will be because of his physical image and voice and body language. That will tip the surverys in his favor.

59. I'm going to put down my pom-poms and AGREE!
It's a draw at best. Honestly, Edwards did much better than I expected. Let's face reality, folks. He DOESN'T have Cheney's political or foreign policy experience. The best we could hope for was that Cheney didn't eat Edwards for dinner and HE DIDN'T. Edwards scored some major points.

I think the first few mentions of Halliburton were good, spot-on, accurate and easy to relate to. But when he kept bringing it up later, it just sounded like a talking point or a distraction.

This was an unfair fight, but we didn't do bad at all (and this is coming from someone salivating at the thought of Cheney and Wes Clark going toe to toe).

62. Where did you see them playing baseball?

I watched a debate. I knew how Cheney would do and expected Edwards would more than hold his own, which he did. I didn't expect him to rout Cheney because Cheney is competent. He had some very good lines that can become slogans or memes, such as the one about the country not being able to afford four more years of this administration.

Another was a short litany of

"THEY SAID that they would do _________ but ___________ happened."

Cheney, like Bush*, referred to Kerry saying "wrong war, wrong place, wrong time," helping sell Kerry's meme!

The fact is everything Cheny tried to slam on was old. We have heard it for 4 months. it will not change the undecided. Fence sitters will say:

WHAT???? Voting against Meals on Wheels???? Very ugly. LOL.

And if you think folks could understand that droning (I dozed off when he was talking) you are kidding.

69. I don't think he needed to do anything besides
make people comfortable with the idea of him taking over. I think he did that. The rest is fluff.

70. A Tie Goes to the Runner, My Friend
Cheney needed the grand slam which he clearly did not get. I know that we all wanted JRE to jump across the table and slap Crashcart upside the head. But that's not his job. His job is too sound knowledgable, cool-headed, likeable, charming, and Presidential. All of which I believe he did.

Cheney was not going to make the same mistakes Nimrod did last week either.

75. go back to the du lounge matcom!!
:)

yeah there's no clear winner. Cheney landed some good punches, even if they were wayyy below the belt, most americans can only see the punch not the context.

Edwards landed some as well, with the added benefit of them being honest but he missed a lot too.

However, Kerry has a far easier opponent so you can't get down on Edwards!!

Cheney acts even cockier than Bush..that's scary, because he's got the intellect and bullshit skill to back it up..

76. I agree it is a draw
and considering that alot of it was on foreign policy that is in a way a win for Edwards, but most will say it was a draw--but more importantly for forming opinion--the pundits will call it for Chaney.

80. The sad thing
Cheney's best points were all built on the Democrats' worst weakness of the past four years - the foul concept of bipartisanship.

Our leaders gave the republican bastards the talking points of the taxes, the war, the patriot act, no child left behind, the drug prescription reform. Remember this the next time you want to move to the center and compromise.
