Prediction about the Right if Kerry wins
They will begin a grassroots (astroturf) campaign to restrict voting to property owners, the way most American elections functioned until the 1820's. Groups like the Heriatge Foundation and the Federalist Society will produce phony scholarly studies showing that only property holders are qualified to vote. They will then suggest that Kerry is an illegitimate president because he was not elected by the property holders.

Just watch.

1. I hope that's their strategy
It's a recipe for their relegation to the trashcan of history.

2. They'll fail because all of us who voted will come out and keep....
the Rethugliklan/Nazi party out of power. We must be ready to deal with the Hitlertage Foundation & Co! They are no better than the Nazis and must be dealt in the same way that FDR confronted these Un-American Facsists 70 year ago!

5. "Even They Aren't That Dumb"
Think about who you're referring to, now do you really think that they aren't that dumb?

14. I think they aren't dumb
As I keep saying, one of the biggest weaknesses of the Liberal movement is this whole "conservatives are dumb" illusion. They _want_ us to think that, because the alternative is that they are treasonous and evil. But nooo, they put a monkey up on top of their ticket and laugh at us because we call them "incompetent".

They work for less than 1% of the population's interest and they get nearly 50% of the vote. We work for the interests of 99% and barely get 50% of the vote.

You decide who's dumb.

20. You are correct - we've been steadily losing ground as we...
...maintain this illusion that we're smarter than them. It's the Gore factor. The superior attitude that turns off so many people. We're RIGHTER than them, but that doesn't equate to smarter.

Instead of acting superior, we should be trying to RELATE to these people.

6. Paranoia runs deep
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 05:41 PM by 56kid
"Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you" and I know there is plenty of objective evidence and reality that the extreme right wingers are nutcases, but let's be realistic.

What are the real chances of this type of thing happening?

It's good to stay energized about all this and to stay on one's guard, but I for one am not going to so demonize my opponent's that I see the boogeyman around me everywhere.

The politics of fear is not a good thing when it is being done to the American electorate by the right wing, and I think it is just about as problematic when Democrats fall into a similar trap/paradigm.

Also, from a completely rational standpoint trying to "suggest that Kerry is an illegitimate president because he was not elected by the property holders." would fly exactly nowhere because it would be an ex post facto law, which is unconstitutional --- if it was even attempted to pull that kind of stuff, it would get shot down real fast.

7. I think they'll go the impeachment route.
That's one of the tenets of the John Birch Society, a lunatic right wing wacko group whose ideas seem to have taken hold of shrubco. Witness Grey Davis and Big Dog. Whoever they want out of power, they find enough exagerrated dirt on them to impeach; with enough right wingers in Congress, it can work.

8. Nah...they'll just re-play the whole 1993 strategy over again.
Gridlock, massive gridlock. Senate filibusters over any bill or appointee that's to the left of Genghis Khan. Harry & Louise-type ads en masse. And right wing media, led by Rush et al heaping all the blame for stagnation upon Kerry. Trying to set themselves up for another "Gingrich Revolution" like in 1994. :(

19. Yep, that is the strategy I expect from the Reichwing
and between Prez elections, they will run a guerrilla political campaign to put Jeb Bush in the WH in 2008.

The Freepers have been discussing this kind of nonsense for years. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see your prediction come true after a Kerry win.

the talibornagain base so much that it's obvious that he wants more than just their votes.

13. I would look to Central and South American history
I believe they will start funneling money to right wing hate groups that will then threaten the rest of us, both physically and verbally. It'd be really easy to divert some of that classified reconstruction money to domestic right-wing terror groups - I'd actually be surprised if they haven't already done that.

Whoever was sending anthrax in the mail - there's probably a right-wing terror group behind that - that'll probably start up again - then the Republicans will be able to start arresting more innocent scientists like Mark Hatfield and blaming them for the incidents.

A new form of McCarthyism will spring up if we aren't fast enough and brave enough to stomp it down and it will go after all the best leftist intellectuals first.

15. smear and character assasination while their 401k's fatten
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 07:43 PM by undercover_brother
they will smear President Kerry over and over. Launch "independent councils" to dig through his divorce records. All this will take place while their 401k's fatten from Kerry's economic policies and foreign leaders join us in finally giving our country true security.

Kerry will be forced to defend his reasons for divorcing his former wife during the 2008 election season while at the same time planning for how to handle the projected 2010 budget surpluses. Teresa will also have to fight allegations that she killed her former husband with a ketchup bottle.

The political game never ends.

17. Nope. It will be internecine civil war.
NeoCon imperialists, theocratic zealots, moderate Rockefeller Republicans and anti-tax libertarians will all battle for control of the party in the ashes of its defeat, with the likely consequence that the breakup of the party which has been 12 years coming will finally arrive. They marched in lockstep all this time thinking that they were all going to acheive their individual aims through mutual action, but Bush and his cabal went and spoiled it all for them. He was their boy, but he done bad. Think they'll be able to settle on a new common figurehead? You already know what I think.
