Watched the Debate in Seoul with some military friends and I'm happy
Some of my friends here in Korea and I decided we'd watch all the debates together and assess them. 7 of the guys and 2 of the women are active duty. The first debate everyone in the room, military and civilian, agreed scrub got killed.
The Vice-Presidential debate was interesting because of the 9 military and 8 civilian in the room (8 republican, 6 Democrat and 3 independent), only two thought veep f**k you won and both of those were independent civilians. All the military said cheney lost. One of the men, a Major in the US Army said this debate was worse. He basically said, "Cheney is bright and articulate and he looked idiotic and underprepared." (this is a paraphrase)
One of my more pukie friends said it just wasn't worth it. He wasn't gonna vote because scrubbie is a loser and f**k you was worthless.
Of the 17 people in the room: 7 definite Kerry, 4 probably Kerry, 3 aren't voting, 2 undecided and 1 maybe scrub.
I'm happy.

1. According to the 'polls'...
The military is 4-1 for Bush. Interesting. Thanks for the story! BTW, I can't imagine how anyone could not vote this year!

2. That number is artificially high.
I think when they got that ratio, it was noted that a large number of retired and non-active officers were polled, not a lot of active duty personnel. But seriously, as long as Kerry can increase his military vote by a few percentage points vs. what Gore got, that could be huge.

3. I also heard that number was high.
I heard about 2/3 of the military polled didn't even bother to respond so don't know where this 'newsflash' came from.

5. Watched both debates in a room with more than 30 people for each.
People loved the first debate. Most of the ABB'ers in the room stopped being ABB and became Kerry supporters (rather than Bush haters). Although the consensus was that Kerry was fantastic and very presidential and Bush came off as a clown, there weren't many moments of tremendous emotion.

For the Edwards debate, there was a ton of emotion. People got really enthusiastiac many times during the debate. The first comment afterwards was that Edwards proved that he could be president today and people agreed they are looking forward to 2012 now, when JRE will be president. People also agreed that Edwards displayed an amazing control over Dick Cheney -- he had Dick in the palm of his hands. Or, a better analogy: he was controlling Dick like a puppetmaster. He was pulling all the strings and made Dick do and say all the things he wanted Dick to do and say in order to build an incredible contrast between K-E and B-C.
