Why we will retake the Senate.
Currently it is looking like we will be picking up Alaska, Colorado, Oklahoma and Illinois. That increases our Senate total to 52. We are holding our ground in North Carolina, Florida, and South Dakota. We could be losing seats in South Carolina and Georgia, but both have been getting closer as of late. I think we can actually win in South Carolina, especially because DeMint has been spouting off his mouth like a jackass lately. But worst case scenario, this brings us down to 50.

Now add Jeffords (independent), and that makes 51, worst case scenario. And if we can get Lincoln Chafee to defect, that is 52, still worst case scenario. If we hold South Carolina, that is 53. Not to mention if we somehow manage to pull off victories in Georgia, Pennsylvania, or Missuri (which by my admission, are a long shot) it could be more!

Plus, if we win the presidency, Edwards would be the tie breaking vote!!!

Let's take back our government, boys and girls!!!!

3. That would be good enough for me!
What does the 60 vote mark mean in the Senate? Is that the mark needed to pass a Constitutional Ammendment?

5. That's the amount needed to break a filibuster
You need 2/3 to override a veto and to pass a constitutional amendment I believe.

6. Cloture

Nothing can be accomplished in the Senate, and therefore the Congress, if one party has 41 votes and wishes to stop the bill, nomination, etc. from passing or succeeding. This is a filibuster. However, 60 votes in favor of a measure can "cut off debate," known as "cloture," and force a vote on anything. That's the significance of the 60 vote benchmark.

8. ...and if the Dems had run a decent
campaign in PA, we'd have beaten that schmuck Specter but Noooooooo....of course not. Santorum only won by 6% last time and the candidate was nameless and ran no campaign with no money. Specter was easily beatable but the deal was in because Eddy Rendell is his neighbor in East Falls - a 'tony' section of Philly.

17. Because the Dem fund raisers
have made a deal so Specter can win. He is an effective Senator loclly and a lot of the business interests are profiting from his being so senior in the Senate and although I have never ever voted for him, he is popular quietly among the otherwise liberal Jews. there is an old joke that Jews live like WASP's and vote like Puerto Ricans. True...except for darlin' Arlen.

Even if we lose GA and SC, we will still have the majority.

12. I completely agree. And, I'd also like to see...
As much as Tom Daschle is a decent man, I'd like to see a new Majority Leader. And if I can offer a plug for my Senator, Dick Durbin would be a superb Majority Leader. :-)
