Campaign to STOP Roy Moore
Dear Alabama DU Members,

I am writing on behalf of the Campaign to Stop Roy Moore, headquartered at http://stoproy.com

As you know, Roy Moore recently announced his intentions to run for governor of Alabama. It is the belief of this grassroots campaign that American progressives across the nation must come together to vigorously oppose Roy Moore's candidacy. If Roy Moore is elected in Alabama, what is to stop him from setting his sights on the White House?

The fact is, unless we come together with one voice to show America that we are fiercely opposed to the theocratic aspirations of Roy Moore and his supporters, it can (and quite possibly will) happen. Enough is enough. Roy Moore was ejected from the bench for his refusal to honor the Constitution of the United States. Is the the type of man we want to see taking the oath to "protect and defend" that same constitution? Surely, even "George Bush's America" can do better. We need to say "NO" from day one, and we need to stand firm.

Please join us today in our efforts to honor the oath taken by every American president and upheld by every American citizen of good conscience. Help us "protect and defend" the U.S. Constitution from the ultra-conservative theocracy envisioned by candidates like Roy Moore. As unlikely as it may seem at first glance, we can rest assured that in the minds of our opponents, it is "first Alabama, then the world." Many of us never thought that someone like George W. Bush would ascend to the Presidency, but he did. Let it be a lesson to us - a lesson we choose to apply now.

Please consider doing whatever you can to promote the efforts of http://stoproy.com .

Best,

StopRoy.com Staff

1. Like David Duke
I think Roy Moore does more damage to the pukes than helps them. He's a lightning rod for division and he embarasses moderate pukes.

2. Probably so, but...
Are there enough moderate Republicans in Alabama to stop Moore? I'm hoping so, but after all, this *is* Alabama. Our Republican fundies are the national standard.

Moore will embarass many Republicans across the nation. The trouble is, he will embarass more in other states than he will here, and it is our Republicans who make the decision.

Think about it. If he wins, we will have another highly conservative, charismatic Southern governor. Where does that lead?

4. No, this group is funded by me.
I started it myself, out of my own personal interest in doing something meaningful. So far, we have no political sponsors at all. I don't know if we would accept any.

I'm a Democrat, so I couldn't be called a Bob Riley supporter. However, if the choice is between Bob Riley and Roy Moore, give me Riley on a silver platter with ketchup.

With any luck, we'll get Lucy Baxley in. But this *is* Alabama, and she *is* a Democrat. I think we need to be realistic and think about a "lesser of two evils" situation.

11. Moore gets money from various groups outside Alabama as well as
state contributions. He's a divisive factor and can be counted on to attract 30-40% of the vote when people don't discuss things like poor education, unemployment, underemployment, poor health care, etc.

12. Moore's base doesn't care about those things
They have theirs, and Jesus has his. Tough luck for the rest of us.
