Amendment to remove segregation language from constitution unlikely in '06
Alabama legislators aren't expected to try to remove segregation-era language from the state constitution in 2006 because controversial issues aren't popular in an election year.

"You won't see it until after election time," said Rep. Neal Morrison, D-Cullman, the new chairman of the House Constitution and Elections Committee.

State Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, begs to differ.

"It's not a controversial issue," Holmes said. "It's a very good issue, and I am going to use every method known to human ingenuity to remove every paragraph, every line and every word in the Alabama Constitution that refers to segregation and racial discrimination."

1. So amazing...
...that it should even be controversial.
