Jeff Sessions: Did he really say "Klan Was Cool 'Till They Smoked Pot?"
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 04:48 AM by Syrinx
If so, he's even worse than I thought. And I thought he was really, really bad!

Forgive my source on this. It's from an article originally from the New Republic magazine. But the New Republic site is subscription-based. Fortunately, for my immediate purpose, the freepers have no respect for intellectual property, even though they (say they) worship at the church of capitalism.

If this is accurate, the bastard is is even sicker than I thought. He thinks racist murderers are okay unless they smoke pot. My mind reels at the sickness of this ass.

This needs to be publicized!! Sessions' career would be over in a heartbeat if this could be publicized. We need to get busy.

It got worse. Another damaging witness--a black former assistant U.S. Attorney in Alabama named Thomas Figures--testified that, during a 1981 murder investigation involving the Ku Klux Klan, Sessions was heard by several colleagues commenting that he "used to think they were OK" until he found out some of them were "pot smokers." Sessions claimed the comment was clearly said in jest. Figures didn't see it that way. Sessions, he said, had called him "boy" and, after overhearing him chastise a secretary, warned him to "be careful what you say to white folks." Figures echoed Hebert's claims, saying he too had heard Sessions call various civil rights organizations, including the National Council of Churches and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, "un-American." Sessions denied the accusations but again admitted to frequently joking in an off-color sort of way. In his defense, he said he was not a racist, pointing out that his children went to integrated schools and that he had shared a hotel room with a black attorney several times.

3. Is Sessions up for re-election this year?
If so, who's the Democratic nominee?

Honest-to-Pete, I think Sessions may actually be dumber than Brownback, Santorum, Chambliss, DeMent(ed) and that Goober from Oklahoma all rolled into one. He's even worse than Cat-killer Frist.

Where's Roger Bedford? Maybe he could have another go at him.

As an expatriate Alabamian living in the wilds of Wonderful West Virginia, I cringe everytime I see or hear that mealy-mouthed little puke. He's an embarrasment to the State. And if he got any further up Der Fueler's butt, you could see Sessions grinning every time Dear Leader opens his mouth.

I'd love to have a gen-u-wine Alabama Liberal call "Head-On" to blast Sessions. The audience always loves to hear Progressives with that accent I know and love so well.

4. unfortunately, no
Sessions is up in 2008, and Shelby in 2010.

In 2002, Sessions was challenged by Democratic candidate Susan Parker, a former state auditor. Sessions defeated her handily, at least according to the machines.

I like Parker very much, and supported her enthusiastically. She's the Democratic nominee this year for seat number two on the Public Service Commission. It's not exactly the U.S. Senate, but she can count on my vote.

Roger Bedford is still representing the 6th district in the state senate.

It might be interesting to see Congressman Artur Davis take on Sessions in two years. Davis is too conservative for my tastes, but he has also done some good work.

I agree with you about Sessions, he's embarassing in every way.

5. Brownback...
Brownback is by no means stupid. In fact, I'd say deviously evil is a better description. He never took on the persona of the religious hard-liner 'til he knew Kansas had started to tilt in that direction. He's also extremely good at mollifying adversaries with token gestures of charitable action. If there's a politician out there who could spearhead a permanent rise of the religious right, it's him.

6. I don't think Brownback will be leading the rise of the religious wrong

He doesn't have the political skills to appeal to anybody but his base. He sounds batshit insane every time he opens his mouth. Also, after reading What's the Matter With Kansas, it didn't seem as though his gestures were token. It seemed as thogh he actually had one redeeming quality in that he was genuinely a supporter of overseas humanitarian efforts.

BTW, welcome to DU
