I was reading this blog from a person at my local newspaper, the Tuscaloosa News.
No thanks to whomever was behind the signs (I neglected to read the fine print.) urging a straight-Democrat vote. It says, "Had Enough? Vote Democratic."
Yeah, I've had enough of all the corruption and bungling. Especially in the two-year-college system and the Secretary of State's Office. So tell me, how is voting for more Democrats going to help?
Me, I'm an independent. And since I work in the T-News newsroom, I'm not going to get all political here. All I'll say is that there are some very good Republicans out there, and I'm annoyed by the yellow flier someone from the Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC spawned the New South group 20 years ago) stuffed in my fence that suggests we ought to all select the donkey and vote a straight ticket on Tuesday.
Then, I decided to offer a response, in which I was questioning the concept of "good Republicans."
Comment: Please Ms. Coleman, tell me who all these wonderful Republicans are. Bush has abolished Habeas Corpus. That means that YOU could be locked up tomorrow and you would have no ability to challenge your detention. Cheney shot a man in the face, was probably drunk at the time, and is not called to account. Jeff Sessions said that the Ku Klux Klan was cool, until they started smoking pot. Bob Riley reneged on his declaration that the Alabama tax code is immoral, because it helps the rich, at the expense of the poor. Luther Strange is, or at least, was a lobbyist from the criminal organization know as HealthSouth. Troy King doesn't think we should try to prevent violent crime. Gerald Allen thinks we need to take books by gay authors, and "bury them in a big hole." Mark Foley asks 16-year-olds about the size of their penis. That preacher, Haggard, indulges in methamphetamine-fueled sex with gay prostitutes. And our Republican government has slaughtered 3,000 American soldiers, and over 600,000 innocent Iraqi civilians in a war based on lies and Halliburton profits. Who are all these good Republicans that you speak of?
Now, after reading her post (the whole thing, below) a couple of times, I get the feeling that it is vaguely racist too.
