Election Results 2008 (AL)

I am curious, where might I find the election results of the general as they are turned in?

The SoS has a site at http://www.alabamavotes.gov. In the past, I have found more timely results at newspaper and tv station sites. I hate to admit it, because the SoS is now a Republican, but the SoS site seems a lot better now. Whether they will have more timely posting of results remains to be seen.

The biggest newspaper site is http://www.al.com. That's a joint venture of the Birmingham News, Huntsville Times, and the Press-Register in Mobile. The News and the Press-Register are both quite right-wing. I'm not really that sure about the Times.

Tuscaloosa's daily is fairly liberal in its editorial stance. It can be accessed at http://www.tuscaloosanews.com.

And the local paper in the state capital is at http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com. I'm not sure what their editorial positions are like, as I haven't read that paper in a long time, but Montgomery is a Democratic-leaning city.

(I guess editorial positions don't really matter, since you're just looking for numbers. But as Stephen Colbert noted Monday night, numbers are known to have a liberal bias. :) )

A few years ago, DU put together some sort of "media zapper" thing, where I compiled a list of links for practically every media outlet in the state. I suppose that information is probably still on this website, though where I couldn't tell you. I don't recall hearing much of anything about the project since I completed the compilation. The whole thing pretty much seemed to fall off the radar, just like the so-called "DU Activist Corps." It seems the admins have decided to let DU be "just a message board," after flirting on occasion with somewhat bigger ideas. Sorry, I got off on a tangent there. ;)

A completely different demographic then I usually see; more young people of all races and many more African Americans.

I am hoping for a major upset.
