1. Mayor Shmayor
I'm with you...He's in no way qualified to be Mayor, I mean yes he has opinions, but so do I! I'm not running for Mayor!

I get the impression with Jack that he has made a career feeding his ego. Do you listen to his show? Argh his self righteous crap gets my blood going...

4. Not sure I belong here
I thought the Anchorage races were supposed to be "non-partisan"? I don't think Jack is any better or worse than any of the other bought and paid for politicians in office.

As long as we allow funds to flow to candidates from people and entities that can't vote for them, we will never have a representative government. Politicians represent the money that put them in office and they hope will keep them in or return them to office.

The only qualification needed to be a representative of the people is the good judgment to select and hire staff. The people we elect simply supply the passion, inspiration and imagination. The rest is up to accountants, lawyers, bureaucrats to implement. Money is the source of passion, inspiration and imagination for politicians.

Oh, by the way :hi: I'm Bob and I'm here to save the world.

5. there are differences
Only a very ignorent or naive or deluded voter would not see a difference between jack frost and mark begich...

and the non partisan mayoral race is kinda bullshit...we all know who the Dems and the pugs are...

I support Mark Begich not just becouse he's the Dem...he's a good man and a hard worker...

6. insignificant differences
In my opinion, only ignorant or delusional voters believe that there is any significant differences between any politician at any level. Any differences are purely superficial at best.

8. Not cynical
I don't think it's cynical to see the political landscape for what it is. Until and unless fundamental changes are made to the way we elect our representatives, we won't get the best candidates to run, nor will the best candidates win. Too often people are left with the choice of choosing between two evils, or voting against someone instead of voting for someone. If "None of the above" was an option, I wager it would win most elections if it meant having to have another election with different candidates.

I don't support any party candidates. Nor to I oppose any party candidates. Is independence and individuality not appreciated here?

14. vote democrat and support the party...
..regardless of the individual. The worst Democrat is better than the best Republican.

I'm sorry, I just can't buy into that. Is that REALLY how people here think?

16. Cleofus, you aren't required to be a registered Democrat
or a straight-ticket Democratic voter to post in DU(although I, for the record am the first and pretty much the second-but can you really blame me for not voting for Theresa Obermayer for Senate?).

I think you may be riding this guy a bit too hard here.

18. And I saw Cleofus' original post
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:04 PM by Ken Burch
and I can't understand why it deserved to be deleted.

It wasn't that bad.

In fact, I really wish our mods would do a bit less deleting.
It's getting really ridiculous in some threads.

20. The real question Anchorage voters would have to wrestle with
in the possibility of a Jack Frost for Mayor campaign is, would anybody want their mayor to have a name that was that silly?

I mean, you'd give Leno months worth of material there...

24. Jack Frost?
Am I just not getting a huge inside joke or is there actually a man running for mayor named Jack Frost in Anchorage? The irony would overwhelm me, that's like the mayor of LA being named Holly Wood.

25. The name is not a joke.
It's really Jack Frost. He has been a well-known radio commercial guy here ("rambo prawns") and a right-wing presence on our Air America station.
