Exploding toads have nothing on imploding toadies
Exploding toads have nothing on imploding toadies

May. 3, 2005 12:00 AM

Perhaps you are visiting our state for the first time. Or maybe you're looking into the possibility of moving to Arizona and want to know what it's like. Or possibly you've already relocated here and are searching for ways to describe life in a desert paradise to friends and relatives back home. If so, then everything you need to know was printed in last Friday's Arizona Republic.

On that day, the third nuttiest article in the paper involved exploding toads. Really. The other two involved a local subspecies, "toadies," otherwise known as politicians.

News reports out of Europe said that more than 1,000 toad corpses have been discovered near a pond in Hamburg, Germany.

Scientists say the toads spontaneously burst after bloating themselves. They speculate that possible causes for the explosions range from predatory crows that peck at the toads' livers to - I am not making this up - suicide.

Those of you wondering what kind of hopeless circumstance or depressingly bad news could cause an otherwise healthy, happy amphibian to take his own life need only look at the front page of Friday's newspaper. On it were the two articles involving local political tadpoles that, when viewed together, are more than enough to send a sensitive pond dweller into a self-destructive tailspin.

2. seems there's a big wave of resentment toward the legislature
now if only that stupid anti-gay marriage initiative gets on the ballot, we can kick the radcons out of office while re-electing Napolitano, Goddard and putting a "former" in front of Sen. Jon Kyl's title.

3. Kyle needs to go
We need to get rid of this neocon. My mail from Kyle is totally aligned to shrub. Bye-Bye Kyle. It is time for the Dems to have some representation.
